Till a’ the seas gang dry.
~ Robert Burns, “A Red, Red Rose”
A few days later, Deirdre stood in the solar at Lochlavine with Reikart, Maggie, Rhys, Dermot, and Alastair. They’d all given Shona a hug and a kiss, and offered their goodbyes. Shona stood facing them all, the sun glinting in on her, and the time-traveling cross clutched in her hands.
“Now remember,” she said, eyeing Rhys, Maggie, Reikart, and then Deirdre, “take care of each other and find Greyson and Ian. Come back to me and yer father as soon as ye can.”
After several late-night talks, it had been decided that Shona would travel now because it was imperative she get there as soon as possible, and the rest of them would follow when they found Greyson and Ian. If Ian had not traveled, or too much time passed and none of them returned to the future, Shona would come back to the past to retrieve them once their dad was better.
They all nodded at Shona’s words, and then Reikart took Deirdre’s hand and held it tight. “We’re going to make our way to Bruce to relay what we know about what King Edward has done. Once we warn Bruce to be careful, then we are going to find Greyson and try to figure out if Ian traveled here, just like we agreed.”
Shona nodded, looking relieved all over again. Deirdre had known, as Reikart must have sensed, that Shona had needed to hear it one more time.
“And then, Mom,” Reikart said, “wewillcome home.”
“We promise,” Rhys said.
“Aye,” Maggie and Deirdre chorused.
And then Shona closed her eyes and began to chant.
“Again,” Deirdre murmured later that night in the bedchamber she and Reikart shared. They’d retired shortly after Shona had vanished and had talked for hours about when they went to see Bruce, finding Reikart’s brothers, and even his past with Amanda. But now it was just the two of them. All the ghosts were silent, questions raised and answered, and plans made.
“Woman,” Reikart said, rolling off her and making her shriek when he took her with him and she ended up on top of his thighs. His hardness pressed immediately into her, and her desire stirred. He ran his hands up her stomach and over her breasts. “If I massage you any more, you’ll fall asleep.”
She leaned over him, her chest brushing his, and kissed his lips. “And ye say in yer time women let men other than their husbands rub them so?”
“Some women, but not you.” He leaned up and captured her lips with his to give her a long kiss that made her tremble all over. When he pulled away, he said, “Not ever you. I think I’d have to kill any man who touched you.”
She slid her palms over his solid stomach and powerful chest. “As long as ye can keep me satisfied,” she teased, “I vow I’ll never let another man touch me.”
“Wench,” he teased back and then lifted her, making her yelp again. He settled her fully over him as he gripped her hips. “I better perfect my technique on satisfying you right now, then.”
“Do nae worry yerself,” she said on a moan. “I’m all for ye practicing until ye get it just right.”
“And that,” he said, pressing a kiss to the tender skin of her forearm, “is but one of the many reasons I love you.”
“And I love ye,” she said with a smile, feeling a complete happiness she had almost believed impossibly out of her reach.

Chapter One
New Orleans, Louisiana
Present Day
And just like that, Reik was gone too, leaving Ian alone in the cavernous house.
How many times had Ian looked around the Quarter and said to himself,I’ve seen stranger shit than that? Having grown up in a place with a history of accepting the unwanted, the “freaks” of society... Ian was pretty much used to anything.
But this took the cake.
All three of his damn brothers had officially disappeared, presumably into the past.
Ian stared at the ancient silver cross in his hands, the one he and his brother had been holding together a few minutes earlier. It was unnaturally cold, but it hardly looked like a relic that had the power to send one person into the past, let alone three. And yet, there was no denying Rhys, Grey, and Reikart had all disappeared while holding it.
