Cadmus and Harmonia
To believe there was such a time
before they knew each other
felt as impossible as these islands,
but such a time did exist.
Once, Cadmus had been on a quest
seeking out his lost sister, stolen by Zeus.
The same Zeus who was grandfather
to Harmonia, Goddess of Harmony and Concord.
This should have complicated matters.
It did not. Instead, Cadmus and Harmonia
fell in love and where one went
the other would not be far behind,
through cursed jewels,
the slaying of sacred dragons
and the fall of a kingdom.
So the legend goes that when Cadmus
was cursed to become a serpent,
Harmonia begged for the same fate.
They were both brought here,
a love so strong that even the Gods
could not bear to separate them.
But what did Hermes want with them?
The Meeting
Hermes spoke as we walked.
‘I take it that you will not be here long.’
I shook my head.
‘I am passing through to the Halls of Night.’
A frown marred his childlike features.
‘Are you aware of what lies there?’
