just like it had stolen

something irreplaceable from me.

A Roar Exploded Too Close

The sound was so violent

that the stone under my feet vibrated.

I clung to Styx’s hand

out of fear

but also out of awe.

What could possibly

have made such a sound?

The Sounds Grew Louder

A howl.

Hooves.

The flight of something

far too big to be a bird.

And still we walked towards it.

‘We can go back,’

Styx whispered to me.

But I shook my head.

As we kept walking

I saw it.

A waterfall of flames,

the bright orange strange

against the abyss of black

we had been walking through.

For a second

I thought we would jump,

but instead, Hades

took us right to the edge
