But still, something

pulled at my feet

dragging me down

through the waters

as though hooks

had been threaded

through my ankles.

For the first time

I thanked my immortality.

At some point the fall

became a pull upwards.

It started at my waist,

as though the claws

of some great creature

had wrapped around me

and were drawing me up

to meet its eye.

My limbs were like a doll’s

floating uselessly

as the force pulled

until through the inky dark

And then, just as abruptly

as I had fallen in,

I was out of the water,

tossed inelegantly

onto a rocky ground.
