Cameron shook her head, smirking. “For the context of this analogy, let’s say it was just the two of us. Because that’s what this is right here. This moment is us standing on the edge of that plane with the door open and the wind whipping in our hair. We can spend the rest of our lives inside the plane, never knowing the experience of flying. Or we can jump and experience something amazing we never thought we could have.”

Melanie’s head felt dizzy as she soaked in Cameron’s words. When did Cameron become such a wordsmith? Had she planned that answer ahead of time knowing that Melanie would be nervous? Whatever the answer was, all Melanie could think was about how badly she wanted to jump.

Right into Cameron’s arms.

And straight into bed with her.

Chapter 23

Cameron

Watching her words sink in with Melanie made Cameron nervous. What if her analogy sucked? It sounded better in her head, but had she really just compared having sex to skydiving?Geez, Cameron, you’re such a weirdo.Hopefully Melanie didn’t think so. The last thing Cameron wanted was for Melanie to think she was just trying to get her into bed.

Because, on the contrary, Cameron didn’t want Melanie to do anything she wasn’t entirely comfortable with. That was the only way their new relationship was going to work. They had to not only be on the same page, but on the same sentence.

“So,” Cameron smiled at Melanie, “are you ready to jump?”

Melanie nodded. “Hell yeah.”

Any reservations Melanie had a moment ago seemed to dissipate as she leaned in and kissed Cameron. It had been too long since Cameron had been with anyone, and even longer since she had to figure out how to unzip someone else’s dress while kissing them. The last time had been college, and Cameron remembered more about her biology class than that encounter. She fumbled with Melanie’s dress zipper before Melanie finally brushed her away.

“I’ll get it.” Standing, Melanie unzipped her dress without ever breaking eye contact with Cameron. She kept her hand on the top of the dress, careful not to let it fall down. “Now, remember,” Melanie suddenly looked nervous again, “this isn’t the same body that went skinny dipping with you and Isla at the beach house.”

“Mel,” Cameron held out her hand to Melanie, who took it, “I love your body. It’s sexy and curvy and I cannotwaitto get my hands on it.”

Watching Melanie blush was the cutest thing in the world. Cameron might have savored it longer if Melanie hadn’t finally let the dress fall to the floor. Her eyes struggled to take in so much sexiness standing right in front of her. Melanie’s breasts were amazing; Cameron could say that since her own were far from it after two kids. The arrow tattoo on her rib cage had faded since the last time Cameron had seen it at the beach. Same with the scar from her appendectomy a few years ago.

Although they were the same height, Melanie’s legs seemed longer and sexier than Cameron’s. Cameron couldn’t decide which part of her body she wanted to touch first as Melanie stepped out of the dress and kicked her shoes off. She smiled uneasily at Cameron and shrugged.

“So, what do you think?”

Cameron stood slowly, wrapping her arms around Melanie’s bare body. She held her close, loving the feel of Melanie’s breast pressed into hers as she looked into her green eyes.

“I think you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

“Cam,” Melanie blushed again. “Stop it. Be serious.”

“I’ve never been more serious, Mel. You’re beautiful. I’ve always known that but this,” Cameron gestured up and down her body, “is amazing.”

“You’re too much.” Nervously laughing, she nodded at Cameron. “Your turn.”

“Can you help me with the zipper?”

Turning around, Cameron moved her hair out of the way so Melanie could unzip the dress. She tried not to giggle at the ferocity at which Melanie did so. As she turned back toward Melanie, she watched her eyes go up and down her body. Melanie seemed to be taking it all in as if for the first time.

“A lot different than when I was pregnant, huh?” Cameron grimaced.

“If by different you mean sexy, then yeah. Totally.” With cold hands, Melanie reached out and put her hands on Cameron’s hips. “These hips? Amazing. And these?” Her hands moved to Cameron’s breasts, which made Cameron shiver. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay. Keep complimenting my boobs.”

Cameron was instantly transported back to a memory of the night she had Jonah. Melanie was there while she was nursing but was keeping her distance.

“Boobs freak her out,” Vera stated flatly.

“Just leaking ones.”

“Do mine freak you out?” Cameron asked, half joking.
