God damnit. When did my house become Grand Central Station?
Grumbling, I dropped my cloth on the counter and headed for the door.
My first thought was that Micha had come for an update, which I was prepared to answer by slamming the door in his face.
But it wasn’t a pair of dark eyes I was met with. It was an annoyingly chipper smile.
Fuck my life.
“Hey, son.” My dad slapped his hand down on my shoulder. “The place looks good.”
Pointing out that he hadn’t been inside yet, seemed kind of moot when he pushed past me.
“I’m busy.”
Was it too much to hope he’d take my cue and leave?
“These are nice.” He tapped his foot on the floor as if he didn’t hear a thing I said. “Walnut would look better.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Did he come here to give me home decorating tips or waste my time? I had shit to do.
My answer came when my old man looked around and tapped his chin. “You need a darker marble slab for that island.”
Waste my time, got it.
Muttering under my breath, I scrubbed a hand down my face and shut the door.
“You should probably have that oven inspected.” He promptly waltzed over to stick his head in my brick pizza oven. “Gas leaks are tricky business.”
I turn it on…
Parker couldn’t get mad about that. Oops, my shoulder must’ve hit the button. Why he kept his head in there long enough to burn to death might be hard to explain.
“Are you sure you connected everything properly?”
Yes, but I would have to do it again if he kept tapping around in there.
“Is there a point to this unwantedvisit?”
With his head still in the oven, my old man wagged his finger and tsked. “Now, now, son, all visits from parents are unwanted. Harassing our children is in the job description.”
Sometimes I swore he took the role of dad too seriously. When I sprained my ankle, he insisted I go to the doctor, which would’ve been fine if it happened when I was ten and not last month.
“See, look at that. You’ve got something stuck back here.”
That would be hard to do, considering I had yet to use the thing.
Why couldn’t he bother Ava?
“I knew it.” He popped out of the oven and held up a small pipe. “It’s a good thing I found this.”
Yeah, he found it alright, attached to the other pipes where it was supposed to be.
His eyes lit up as a smile spread across his face. “What would you do without me?”
Live a happy, less annoying life?
“That’s great, Dad. Thanks for the help, and feel free to leave anytime.”
