“What?”
“That's so expensive! You could just have a house and park it yourself. In the garage. Like a normal person.”
“Yeah … I had a house in Cherry Creek, actually. But I sold it last year.”
“Why?”
“It was too damned empty and sad. But here? There's always something going on here.”
I gestured at the crowded and bustling lobby. I loved walking through there with Honor on my arm—her presence was so bright and shining, so attention-grabbing, all eyes were drawn to her.
“Well. I guess I can't blame you,” Honor giggled. Her high heels made a satisfyingclackwith every step she made on the polished stone floor. “You picked a nice hotel to live at.”
“It's alright,” I teased modestly.
She back-handed me playfully. “Don't even play. You've seenmyapartment and you know I'm already embarrassed about it.”
The elevator doors closed after us, and we were all alone.
“Hey. Come here.” I wrapped my hands around her, pressed her against the wall, and planted my lips on her neck. “You're so beautiful.”
“Oh, Hunter,” she sighed, wrapping a leg around me and pulling me closer.
Seconds later, we reached the top floor. The elevator doors opened, and a scandalized family of five stared back at us, mouths drawn open, eyes wide.
“Oh my God!” Honor squealed and rushed past them.
“Sorry, guys,” I said as I went after her. And the two of us hurried to the end of the hall, laughing, to my suite.
I opened the door and Honor stepped in, awed. “Woooow!” She ran from room to room, scoping the place out like a kid on vacation.
I grinned. “So, you like it?”
“It's sonice!”
“Still think it's a waste of money then?”
Standing by the west-facing windows that overlooked the Rockies, Honor shot me a side-eyed stare. I chuckled, neared, and wrapped my arms around her.
The sky swirled with pinks and oranges and reds as the sun descended behind the mountains. The silhouette of the Rockies, a rich and deep purple, stood imposing but serene over the city.
“Look at that sunset,” I whispered in her ear.
“It's beautiful.”
“Not as beautiful as you.” I nibbled at her earlobe.
She jammed her elbow into my abs—not hard enough to hurt. “Oh, stop, Hunter.”
“Why? I mean it.”
We stood, with my arms wrapped tight around her, and watched the sun as it set. Once the last sliver of blood-orange sun had completely disappeared—andonlythen—did Honor whip around in my arms, the ends of her hair snapping in my face. Her lips met mine and we shared a long, deep kiss.
“This was a very sweet date, Hunter. Very, very sweet.”
“Yeah? I met your expectations?”
“I'd say youexceededthem, actually.”
