“So no one even knewwhat went down between you guys?”

“Nope.”

“God! That's so … wrong!”

“Yeah, oh well.” I shook my head. “Ever since, I've been stuck in this dark place. Colorado traded for me, thinking I could lead their young team into the future. They didn't realize they were getting this fucked up, broken asshole.”

Honor squeezed my hand with both of hers. “You're not a fucked up, broken asshole, Hunter.”

I scoffed. “Feels like it.”

“That girl trampled all over your trust! You had your heart broken, Hunter. Thathurtsand it takes time to get over.”

My throat ached. “Thanks … I guess.”

“I can only imagine how much harder it is to get over that when you've got this fame and money, and that's the first thing people see when they look at you. Or theonlything they see.”

“You can say that again,” I scoffed. “Look, I know I've been a sleaze. I've slept around ever since Vanessa, because there were all these girls who would happily fuck me just to say they've done it. Part of me, I think, was lashing out at her. Or myself. I don't know, honestly. I don't know why I did it. All I know is that it hasn't helped me feel any better.”

“Aw.” Honor's brow grew heavy.

“That's why you seem so different to me, Honor.”

“How?”

“You just are. You're not just impressed with me because of who I am, or because I have money. I feel like you see through all that. You want to know the real me first. With you, I feel like I actually have totry.”

Honor's stature seemed to shrink when I told her that last bit.

“Oh …” she said, looking worried.

“What? What's the matter?”

“Well—it's just—I'm thinking about what we did. Back at my place.”

“And?”

“Maybe you'll feel like you don't have to try so hard anymore? I don't know. I hope it wasn't a mistake.”

“Idon't think it was a mistake. Where's this coming from?”

She sighed. “I shouldn't get into it.”

She broke eye contact and anxiously inspected her nails instead.

“Hey, I told you aboutmyshit.”

She gritted her teeth and smiled. “Okay. Fine. After the commercial shoot today …”

Honor told me what Madison had said: how she hired her because she waspreciselythe type of girl that I wouldn't go for. Whatever the hell that meant.

I huffed after I'd heard the story. “Look. First of all, Madison doesn't know who or what I like at all.And I've already told you that the first time I saw you, I thought you were a total babe.”

I loved to see her smile after she heard that.

“Second, ifwhat she's saying is even true, she clearly fucked up big time. Because the fact that you looked different from the other girls is exactly what caught my eye. The fact that you'veprovento be different from them is what's got me all worked up about you. Honor, I haven't met a girl like you in a long, long time. For once, it's like … I'm excited. About a girl.”

“But we barely know each other.”
