Amalee placed her and on her stomach, the memory of that night so long ago made her gut churn. It was the hardest decision she ever made… not even her parents knew. She’d hidden it from everyone, including him. Ever since then, she built a wall around herself – pushing him out and keeping her heart safe.
She couldn’t go through the heartbreak again. Besides, if he knew what she’d done, he’d never forgive her. Her parents would likely disown her and try to take her crown.
Amalee tucked the letter into her pocket and gave one last glance at herself in the mirror. She brushed her hair, hoping to mask the fear coiling in her veins. Her entire world was about to come crumbling down around her. It was time she told him everything – even if it meant destroying herself in the process.
As she approached the door, she inhaled a deep breath before going in. This was it. This was the moment she’d feared the most. The only person she’d ever love was going to hate her. Gathering her wits, she stepped in to greet him. His face was a mask of shock and confusion. She held his gaze and gave a heartbroken smile.
She wanted to turn around and run but holding the letter in her pocket reminded her secrets have a way of getting out. Amalee took a moment, working up the nerve to speak. His smile nearly undid her. Once she uttered the words, there was no going back.
“We need to talk.”
To be continued….
