He had a few friends that also did graffiti, but that wasn’t the same. They had a lot of things in common, but Jay hadn’t clicked with any of them the way he did here.

Or how he clicked with Logan. Orfelthe clicked with Logan—he was pretty sure that was all in his head. Time would tell, he guessed.

 CHAPTER THREE

 JAY

Jay blinked down at his new text notification. ‘Hey, it’s Logan’, it said from an unknown number. He realised then that, even after going to the diner for breakfast last time, they’d totally forgotten to exchange numbers. He had been trying to decide if it had been purposeful on Logan’s end, if maybe he didn’t want Jay to have his number or if he should ask Nisha for it, when the decision was taken out of his hands.

 Jay

Hey! Howd you get my number?

 Logan

 Nisha

 Jay

 Oh duh whats up?

 Logan

 You free Saturday?

 Jay

 Uh yeah whats up?

 Logan

Gotta get this photography project finished by the end of the month. Want to get some shots of graffiti. Not the popular stuff, but if you have any insight into where I can find some unphotographed pieces…

 Jay

Yeah! totally yeah i can do that! let me give it a think and we can meet on sat

 Logan

 Cool

Jay grinned at the final message. His heart had started speeding for some stupid reason—it wasn’t like they’d set up a time for a date. It was for Logan’s project. Still.

 “What’s with the look?”

Jay lifted his head to see his mom standing beside the couch, hands on her hips like he was getting into trouble. “What look?”

 “You’re all…smiling. Weirdly.”

 “Oh, thanks, Mom.”

His mom rolled her eyes, smiling. “If you don’t want to tell me…” She shrugged.

“No—I mean, it’s nothing. Just, you know, Logan. Just gonna hang out with him Saturday. Well, not hang out, more like…I’m still helping him with his project.”

“Right. Well, you seem to be very excited about this project.”

 “It’s nothing,” Jay whined.
