I laythere holding Evora to my side, feeling her heart bearing against my side. I close my eyes waiting for the monster to come forward, for the need to have someone's blood spill over my hands and to take me over as it normally does after I’ve fucked someone. Only this time, nothing happens. I’m just about ready to succumb to sleep when flickering catches my attention.

Pulling out my phone, I check my cameras and lights. I rewind the cameras for a full twenty minutes, and that’s when I see it, the flicker in the cameras telling me that my feed has been hacked, and what I’m seeing is not what’s actually happening right now in my building.

I send a message to the few men that are on my side, letting them know that I’ve been breached, and the need to prepare for war. I get back several confirmations with three of them telling me they never left the building after they got off today. As silently as I can, I slide out from Evora, going into my walk in closet and to the corner where there’s a hidden keypad. I put in the code, watching as the back wall slides over, revealing my pride and joy.

A room filled with more guns than most people will see their entire lives feed the shelves, drawers, and cabinets. Walking over to the wall where there is tactical gear hanging, I reach out, snatching a pair of black pants and tee shirt and dressing in them before putting on a tactical vest. I load down with my favorite guns, knives, and specialty items before returning to the bedroom. I make my way over to the bed to wake Evora.

I kneel on the bed, running a finger down the side of her face, taking in her features. Her skin is soft and creamy, her nose straight with lashes brushing her cheeks. My phone vibrating lets me know that I’m out of time and have to wake her.

“Evora,” I murmur quietly, “Little one, please wake up.”

I shake her slightly. She comes awake with a start, the fear in her eyes calling the Monster forward, begging for blood. She looks around the room, frantically searching for a moment before her eyes come back to meet mine. She pulls the blankets tight around her chin, taking me in.

“The worries of tomorrow have shown themselves today. Am I right?” she asks, the fear ever-present in her voice.

“You’re not wrong, Little one. I need you to get up and put on the shorts and one of my shirts. I’m going to place you in a hiding spot where you will stay until I return. Do you understand?” I make sure she can see the seriousness in my eyes when I tell her this.

“I understand. Can you get me that shirt or tell me where to find it?” she asks.

“Follow me into the closet,” I order before I turn, going that way, grateful when I hear her following me.

Once in the closet, I bring her over to the drawer where my shirts are, finding a black one. Turning, I slide it over her head before pulling her to my body and placing a hard kiss on her mouth. Evora wraps her arms around my neck, pulling herself closer to me. I wrap my arms around her waist, picking her up, deepening the kiss. Another vibration in my pocket warns that time is well and truly gone.

“I want you to slide behind my hanging clothes there. You do not come out or answer the door unless it’s me. I don’t care who it is, or what they say. Do you understand what I’m telling you?”

She nods her head looking up at me. I watch as the fear crawls ever so slowly into her eyes. She starts to shake with it. Pulling the pistol from the back of my pants, I place it in her hand. She looks down at it then back up at me.

“Hendrick, I can’t. I don’t know anything about guns,” she stammers, her teeth chattering.

“If someone comes through that door you hold it in both hands and point it at them. When you are ready, you place your finger on the trigger, and pull. Do not, in any way, put your finger on the trigger until you are prepared to shoot it. Do you understand what I’m telling you?” I demand.

“Yes, I understand. Stay put until you return, no matter what. Point and shoot anyone else that comes through that door,” she states, repeating my words with more gusto than I know she feels.

“That’s my girl. Now, go.” I kiss her once again, hard on the mouth, before guiding her where she needs to go and being sure that she can’t be seen.

Taking a deep breath, I leave her there, turning the lights off as I go. I close the door quietly, making my way across the bedroom, grabbing my hat, turning the lights off, and closing the door as I go. When I make it into the hallway, I let the Monster break its shackles, coming forward. I make it to the end of the hallway just as the bell dings, letting me know that the elevator has arrived on the floor. When the doors slide open, I’m not at all shocked not to see anyone there. A shadow outside the living windows tells me exactly what I need to know.

“Let’s get this done, gentleman,” I call out as a guy jumps up from behind the island.

Before he can get his gun up and ready to fire, I’ve fired a kill shot. In quick succession, I deal with the four others. I know they’ve sent more than just that, my still vibrating phone tells me that. There is another wave of men showing up. Allowing myself a moment, I pull my phone out to see four messages from my men, each telling me their position and who is still left to be dealt with. Movement behind me has me spinning around a touch too late.

“Tonight's the night that the boogeyman falls, once and for all,” the boss's second in command laughs as he fires several shots, knocking me on my ass.

The pain exploding through me is worse than I remembered. I lay there as the world blinks in and out. The man comes to stand over me, grinning like a bitch that got away with catching me off guard. Yeah, motherfucker, not this time. With what little strength I have, I tilt my gun towards him.

“Make sure that your target is dead before standing over them like a dumbass next time.” I sneer at him before pulling the trigger.

The jackass falls to his knees before spraying me with blood as he struggles to breath. I slowly start to sit up, the pain in my ribs and chest making it hard to breathe. The elevator dings once more, and I turn pointing my pistol at whoever comes through the elevator. Relaxing only a touch when I see my true second come through the door, dressed the same as I am.

“Figures I’d find you sitting on your ass while we take care of everything else.” He smirks, walking over to me, and reaching out to help me up off the floor.

“I know my body count is still higher than yours. Now, where the hell is my fucking hat.” I smirk back at him.

I find my hat as two gunshots go off in my room. I take off at a full run toward my room, pistol at the ready. I come around the door to the bedroom, seeing one of my men standing in the doorway of the closet with his hands up, talking a mile a minute.

“Little one, stand down. He’s one of mine!” I shout from my place behind him.

Evora pokes her head out seeing me over the man’s shoulder. She jumps up, running toward me without a second thought, and launches herself at me. I catch her with a huff of pain as she hits the areas of my vest that caught the bullets.
