“I know they don’t feel sorry for killing another species.”

“Exactly – because it’s called nature. We’re part of nature too and for thousands of years we’ve hunted and eaten animals. Nothing new about it, nothing wrong about it.” Boulder took another bite.

“It’s a crime in the Motherlands.”

“I know, you told me so the first time you saw me eat meat, but you Momsies are all softies and you don’t know what you’re missing out on.”

“We still get the taste of meat. Ours is just grown in laboratories and no animal had to die for it.”

“Are you done?” He gave me a hard stare. “I’m trying to enjoy my steak here, and this deer tasted excellent until you started ruining my appetite with talk about laboratory meat. That’s just disgusting.”

“You seem very tense.”

“Yeah, well, maybe I am.”

“You can tell me if I’m getting on your nerves or something,” I said, trying to figure out what I’d said wrong.

“It’s not you.”

“Then what is it?”

“I want to go home and take you with me but Khan denied my request.”

“Oh, I see.” I put down my fork. “Where do you live?”

“I own an island west of here. It’s called Victoria Island and I have it all to myself, except for a few staff members.”

“Is it far?”

“About fifteen minutes in the hybrid.”

“And why did Khan want us to stay?”

I got no reply and went back to eating my risotto.

Boulder was quiet. He seemed to have a lot on his mind and kept scowling around the room.

Tired from a long day of digging I went to bed early, bringing my reader, and continued my novel,Pride and Prejudice.

Boulder chose to watch a movie and put on his movie glasses and earpiece while stretching out on the supporter.

“What are you watching?” I asked.

“What?” He pulled out an earpiece and popped the glasses up on his forehead.

“What are you watching?” I asked again.

“Oh, just an old movie.”

“What is it about?”

“War.”

I scrunched my face, “That doesn’t sound very nice.”

“I like it.” He grinned. “Lots of blood and gory details, it’s cool. But you know what always amuses me in these old movies?”

“What?”
