“I get you. Taking care of the injured takes a lot out of a person. Let me drive you home – I’ll pick you up in the morning, and we can ride in together.”
My knee-jerk reaction is to say no, but considering how I’m feeling, it would be irresponsible of me to get behind the wheel right now. “Thanks, Knight, ’preciate the offer.”
A round of goodbyes echoes across the lot as everyone heads for their own vehicles – we’re all in a hurry to get home.
“I just need to grab some things out of my truck before we leave,” I say to Knight.
“All good. I’ll go get the car. Meet you at yours.” I acknowledge him with a wave.
Conversation is minimal as we make our way off the base. So quiet, in fact, I must doze off because the next thing I know, Knight’s calling my name and telling me I’m home. Thanking him again, I hop out and stagger my way inside. I can’t honestly remember when I’ve ever felt this exhausted.
Dumping my bag by the door, I strip on my way to the bedroom. I take just enough time to set an alarm for the morning before flopping bare-ass naked onto the bed and giving myself over to the sleep gods.
When my alarm goes off, I seriously consider flinging my phone across the room, but sigh and get up instead. First port of call is the kitchen to brew some coffee so I can have a hit of java prior to heading out the door. Yawning, I don’t even wait for the shower to warm up before hopping in.
The ice-cold water hits my skin, wiping away the last traces of grogginess, getting the adrenaline pumping and the blood flowing. Scrubbing myself down, out of nowhere memories of the night I spent with Eloise hit me. I can almost feel her hands on my body, they’re so vivid, making me hard. Painfully so.
There’s no way I can leave the house like this so, with a sigh, I take my aching cock in hand. Calling to mind a memory of her doing the same thing, I rub one out in the shower. Stroking myself, I picture her down on her knees in the shower with me, my dick in her mouth, her eyes holding mine. She sucks harder, faster, her eyes closing as the water cascades over her face and down her breasts, and my body tightens in readiness.
I groan in ecstasy as my orgasm hits and a shudder wracks my body. It’s been a while since getting myself off feltthatgood. Probably the thoughts of Eloise that did it.
If it weren’t for the fact that I know relationships aren’t for me, she’d be the one I’d want to explore one with. I like her. She’s funny, open, and without artifice. What you see is what you get with her. But since I’m sworn off those, my memories will have to do. For now, though, I’ve got to get a move-on.
I’m just finishing my coffee when my phone chirps with an incoming message – Knight letting me know he’s here. The return trip to base is very different to the one from yesterday. For one, I’m way more awake and alert and, two, I’m feeling pretty mellow after my showertime shenanigans.
“Indie says to say hi and that she hopes to see you soon. She misses you.”
Indigo Jones holds a special place in my heart. She may be Knight’s woman, but I consider her to be the sister of my heart. As an only child, I grew up lonely, and my dad’s proclivity for beating the hell out of my mom kept me pretty isolated since I wasn’t able to bring any friends home. And I never felt right about going over to theirs since I couldn't return the favor.
When she took a severe beating because of a psycho from her past, seeing her resilience and strength – well, cue the soft spot. “I miss her too. It feels like an age since I last saw her.”
“That’s ’cause it is. You’ve been scarce lately.”
Knight’s right. I always get introspective around the time of the anniversary of my mom’s death, and I withdraw. It might make me sounds like a wussy, but it seems to get harder with each passing year instead of easier. I miss her so goddamn much.
“I know. It’s just been a bit of a stressful time lately. We should get together soon and have a barbecue or grab a pizza.”
“Sounds like a solid plan. I’ll chat with her and get something put together for the weekend.” Knight nods. Pulling into a parking spot on the base, talk turns to work and the mission. As he parks, he says, “I need to speak to Wolf quickly before we head back into the debrief.”
“Sure. See you inside. Thanks for the lift, man. I appreciate it,” I say as we hop out and he locks up. I get a chin lift before he walks away.
No matterwhat time of the day, Nero’s is always busy. They have the best pizza in town, making them wildly popular. At least they aren’t packed yet so I can still snag a table, but it won’t be too long before they are. Just as I’m getting comfortable, Lucky arrives, phone glued to his ear, a grin firmly in place.
I can imagine who he’s talking to – who has him grinning like he’s won the lottery.
“I’m here so I’m going to have to say goodbye, but this conversation isn’t over,” I hear him say. Lucky’s silent for a moment before his belly laugh can be heard throughout the restaurant.
Tucking his phone back in the pocket of his jeans, he grabs a seat opposite me in the booth. “Tiggs says hi.”
“Hi back,” I mumble around a mouthful of breadstick. These things are my kryptonite – if we didn’t train the way we do, I would weigh a ton because of these babies.
“Man, it’s good to be home. Tiggs and I’ve been –”
“Uh-uh. La la la la …” I hold up a hand to halt the next words.
Lucky frowns for a second, then lobs a chunk of breadstick at me. “You pervert. I wouldn’t share those details with anyone, not even you – even if you are my best friend. Some things are between a man and his woman. What I was going to say, before you so rudely interrupted me, is we’ve been thinking about taking a trip to Hawaii – a bit of a holiday. We could both do with the downtime.”
“Oooh. Well, why didn’t you just say so?”
