His kiss felt so good, tasted good. It was the most delicious kiss she’d ever had.

“Ellen, I hate to break you two up,” Hank said, “But Travis needs to get that leg looked at.”

She pulled away. “Leg? Travis you’re bleeding!”

“Calm down,” he said. “It’s not that bad.”

“Not that bad?” Ellen said. “You’ve been stabbed!”

“Believe me, sweetheart, I’ve had far worse,” he said. “Wait till you see the other scars.”

“Chicks dig scars,” Gunny said.

Ellen took hold of Travis’s chin and looked into his eyes. “Well, this chick would rather you not collect any more of them.”

“Yes, dear,” Travis said.

The men all laughed.

Ellen waited while Travis had his leg taken care of by the team medic.

Then the sheriff was there, and she had to tell all about what had happened to her. After Travis gave his statement, they were good to go. He had to have some stitches put in.

Finally, when everything was done, and they ready to head home, he said, “We still on for the rodeo?”

“Do you think you’ll feel up to it?”

“Hell yes! I’m always up for a good rodeo and Scotty has been looking forward to it for weeks,” he said.

“I have been too, but I don’t want you to overdo it,” she said.

“Sweetheart, you’re going to have to learn to quit fussing’,” he shook his head.

“You’ve had two wives,” she said. “Did they never fuss over you?”

“Hell no,” he said. “That would’ve driven me crazy.”

“I thought you were going to die,” she said, as she started crying. “I don’t want to lose you.”

“Aw, I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “Don’t you know why they call me Ballistic?”

“No,” she admitted. “I didn’t really know what it meant.”

“Well, it refers to bullets and guns, so I guess you wouldn’t have, before,” he said. “But in a nutshell, I have outlived so many gunfights that could’ve killed me, the nickname took and stuck. So, sweetheart when I say I’m not going anywhere, I mean it. I’ve got a little boy to raise, and now I have you,” he smiled. “That’s if you want me. If you don’t want any other guy.”

“I can’t even imagine being with any other guy, and wouldn’t want to,” she said. “I think I’ve fallen for you.”

“Good,” he said, “Cause I’ve fallen for you, too. From our first kiss, I knew.”

“I wasn’t supposed to be kissing you,” she said.

“But you did,” he said.

“Yes, I did,” she said. “You had me wanting to break rules. I was happy kissing you.”

“I wonder how soon a new betting pool will be up on these two getting married,” Kujo said.

“I’d give it no more than a week,” Hank said.
