I roll my eyes. “You make him sound like a monster, but if he was, he wouldn’t be your best friend.”
“He’s not a monster. He’s a great person.”
“But?”
“I’ve known him a long time. I’ve seen some things.”
“People can change, dad.”
He nods. “You’re right. This is the last thing I’ll say about it. Just be careful.”
“There’s nothing to be careful of. I’m going back to college in two days. I won’t see him again until maybe summer. Who knows what’ll be going on by then.”
“Okay, Tristan. Just know I love you.”
“I know. I love you too.”
Cue massive guilt trip.
Sittingin Trinity’s car on the way back to school, I pull my phone out. “I’m texting him, Trinity. I can’t take it anymore.”
“Do it. I bet he’ll be excited to hear from you.”
“What should I say?”
She glances at me. “What do you want to say?”
“Honestly? That I want to come back. I want him to make love to me again. I want to eat dinner together and sleep in his arms and all that shit.”
“Tell him that.”
“Too much?”
She shrugs. “I think he can handle it.”
Taking a deep breath, I type out everything in my heart as nervous energy takes hold. I wait ten minutes. Then fifteen. Then twenty.
“Fuck, Trinity. He’s not answering.”
“Give him time, sweetie. He could be working or doing something he can’t get to his phone right now.”
“Yeah.” I nod. “You’re right.”
“If he told you to come back, would you?”
“Totally stupid question, babe.”
She laughs softly. “What would you tell your dad?”
“Don’t know. Don’t care. I just want to be with Bishop.”
She glances at me before returning her attention back to the road. “I mean, I get it. You said he was amazing looking, but that’s not even the half of it. He’s ridiculous.”
“I know, girl. And then he touches me and…” I shake my head.
“Fire.”
“I want that life.”
