I laugh and shake my head, still in shock. I can’t believe it. This cabin is officially our new home.
“This is my early engagement gift to you guys. It’s only a matter of time before you two tie the knot, you’re so disgustingly in love,” she teases. “Theo, you’d better pull off an incredible proposal for my best friend.”
He smiles at me, affection clear in his sky-blue eyes. “Promise I will.”
“Good. Now I’m hanging up for real this time.”
“Love you, Ingrid,” Theo and I say in unison.
She says she loves us and hangs up. I set the phone down and glance around the open concept space. “I can’t believe your cousin gave us her cabin. This is officially ours. Our first home together.”
Theo shakes his head, dazed. “I can’t either. This is wild.”
He slinks his arms around my waist pulling me against him. I wrap my arms around his neck and press a soft kiss to his lips. My heart hammers in my chest and my skin goes hot.
When we break our kiss, I lock eyes with him. “I can’t believe this is my life. Perfect job. Perfect boyfriend. Perfect home.”
Theo flashes that gorgeous smile at me. “I can’t either. How did I get so lucky to land you, Maya Grant?”
Emotion blooms in my chest. I cradle his face in my hands.
“I can’t wait to marry you,” he whispers. That sensation inside of me deepens and intensifies.
Marry
That word. A word that used to terrify me does the opposite now. We’ve talked about it a handful of times in the past six months and each time it’s felt a little less scary. I feel myself getting more and more excited at the thought of marrying Theo.
“I can’t wait to marry you too,” I say against his lips. He scoops me up and sets me on the counter.
His hands fall to the hem of my top and he starts to pull it off. “First order of business though.” He tosses aside my shirt, then strips off his own. “Christening the cabin as officially ours. And I think fucking on the island is the best way to do it.”
My head falls back as I chuckle. “So romantic.”
I move in for another kiss before he leans back and pins me with an intense gaze. “I wanna marry you here, Maya. At the cabin.”
I still, floored at the emotion in his eyes and the conviction in his tone. “Really?”
He nods. “This is where I fell in love with you. I can’t imagine doing it anywhere else.”
My heart feels like it’s on the verge of bursting. I’m blown away at the sweetness of his request.
I gaze at him, overwhelmed by this moment. Overwhelmed at the fact I get to spend the rest of my life with Theo Thompson.
I grab him and kiss him until we’re both breathless. “Let’s do it. Let’s get married in the winter. Surrounded by snow,” I say. “Just like the day we moved into this cabin.”
When he smiles at me, I can see his whole heart in his eyes. “Sounds perfect.”
