“Why do you think I do it?” He chuckles before turning the steaks on the grill.

“He came for the opening tomorrow to support me,” Miles says in a tone that is not up for discussion. “He’s my best friend, and hewillbe staying here for the weekend. Find a way to deal with it.”

Knox snickers, and Miles shoots him an equally no-nonsense look.

“You too, Knox. This weekend is important to me…to our family. I’m not going to have the two of you ruin it by acting like rotten two-year-olds. You’re both adults, so act like it.”

Sighing, Knox shoots Savi a look, and the fire in her eyes says, proceed with caution. “I’m calling a truce for this weekend…for Miles.”

“Fine,” she huffs. “For Miles. There’s a rule, though.”

“Why am I not surprised?” He mumbles.

“No puck bunnies are allowed here. That means no bringing them back to the pool house or having to share my space with half-naked girls throwing themselves at you. LikeMiles says, it’s his weekend. Do you think you can keep that small dick of yours inside your pants for two days?”

I choke on my wine, and Miles’s hand pats me on the back.

“My dick has been called a lot of things, but trust me, sunshine, small is not one of them,” he says smugly. “I’ll play nice, though, because I promised Miles I would, so I’ll agree to your rule while I’m here.”

“Good, we all agree then,” Miles says quickly before anything else is said. “Why don’t you girls go enjoy a glass of wine by the fire pit, and I’ll help Knox with dinner?” Miles bends down close to my ear. “Divide and conquer,” he whispers.

“Good idea,” I laugh softly, walking over to Savi to try and defuse the situation with a little help from our friend, Cabernet.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

MILES

Dinner went smoothly, much to my surprise. Olivia’s calm presence must be working on Savi…that and the wine she keeps pouring into her glass.

Travis and Sophia got back an hour ago, and after meeting Bee, my parents took all the kids inside to bake some cookies. It’s just the six of us out here now, relaxing by the pool.

Since Bee is inside, I take this moment to pull Olivia closer to me. It’s hard to be around her and not want to have my hands on her in some way. She doesn’t hesitate to snuggle into me as my arm goes around her.

I catch Knox watching us, and his eyes are unreadable as he takes a sip of bourbon. He’s always been the hardest person in the room to read, keeping his cards close to his chest. I’m one of the few that he trusts and confides in, and I still don’t know where his head is at half the time.

“I was going to wait until after the opening, but now seems as good a time as any to tell you my news,” Knox casually says as he leans back against the couch cushion.

“This ought to be good,” I hear Savi mutter under her breath.

Knox picks up on it and grins. “Oh, you are going to love it, sunshine.” She rolls her eyes, and his eyes dance with a wicked gleam before they focus on me.

“Flying in for your opening was just part of why I’m here. I have a meeting with Tom Goldman on Monday.”

“Coach Goldman?” Travis asks, raising his eyebrow.

“It won’t be announced to the press until next week, but I’m being drafted. You are looking at the new captain of the Bayside Bolts.” Savi chokes on her wine and starts coughing. “Looks like you and I are going to be neighbors, sunshine. It will be just like old times.”

“You are moving here…to Blue Haven?” She finally manages to get out.

“I haven’t bought a place yet, but this town is only thirty minutes from Bayside, and I like the fact that it’s not a big city. I think it’s about time I return home…to family,” he says, looking at me.

“We are excited to have you back, brother,” I grin. “You know we’ll all be there for the first game night to welcome you to home ice.”

“This is the best news in the NHL I’ve heard in a long time. With you on our team, we are getting that cup this year,” Travis says excitedly. “It’s about damn time the Bolts scooped you up. Congratulations, man. That’s a huge deal.”

“It is,” Sophia grins. “Congratulations.”

“Thanks,” he smiles. “I’m looking forward to the move. New York gave me my start, and I’ll forever be grateful for that, but my goal was always to end up here.”
