You’re brave. You’ve got this.
With my newfound determination, I pad into the bathroom. I grip the box where I hid the stick. I pull it out, keeping the screen face down.
One, two, three.
I flip it over and am met with one single word.Pregnant.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Sienna
I’m crashingout right now. My brain can’t even formulate complete thoughts. I get halfway through one before my mind pinballs to something different.
The only thing clearly sticking out in the mess that is my mind is thatI am pregnant.
I’m actually pregnant.
My breath starts to come out far too quickly.I can’t do this.I clutch at my chest.I just want a hug.
Before I can think it all the way through, I pick up my phone. I press Hadley’s name, setting it on the counter on speaker phone.
“Hey,” she says, her voice cheery.
“Hi,” I barely manage to get out through choppy breaths.
“Sienna, what’s wrong?” she asks, her worry evident. Obviously, I sound as bad as I feel.
“I need you.”
Wow. The world must be ending if those words are falling freely from my mouth.
I hear a clatter. “Your apartment?”
“Yes.”
A door slams, followed by the engine of her car starting. “I’m on my way. I’ll be there in five.”
I don’t say anything, but neither of us ends the call until she walks into my bathroom. She sits down beside me where I’m leaning against the tub.
She grabs my hand. “What’s going on, bestie?”
I point to the counter where the pink box is visible.
Her eyes widen. “Oh, okay.” She turns to face me more. “I’m assuming it's positive.”
I nod.
“How are we feeling about this?” she asks, and her voice is gentle.
That right there is the problem. I have no idea how to feel about this.
“I don’t know,” I admit as the first tear tracks down my face.
She wraps her arms around me. “That’s okay. It looks like you just found out.” Her hand makes soothing circles on my back. “This is a big deal. It’s okay to not know what you’re going to do or how you even feel about it just yet.”
She’s right. I know she is, but damn. The weight of all this feels suffocating.
“Why don’t we go back to my place for a girls’ day? Evelyn is at school, and the guys are at work. Maybe getting out of here for a bit will help clear your mind.”
