I reach out, grabbing Warren’s hand.
“Is something wrong? Do you need me to get a nurse?” he asks, an edge of panic in his voice.
“I’m fine. I just wanted to talk to you.” I pull him down until he’s sitting on the edge of the bed beside me. “Are you sure you’re okay with this? Jackson has a mom.”
He holds up his hand. “No, he doesn’t, or at least not one in the woman who gave birth to him. Moms love their children and are there for them no matter what. They’re there to celebrate birthdays and put band-aids on scraped knees. You already are his mom.”
“But…” I start. The shake of his head stops me.
“No buts. My ex signed over her parental rights a year ago because her new husband was rich and she didn’t want to give me any money. I don’t know if that would have happened, but I wasn’t going to miss the chance to have her out of our lives for good. She is our past.”
He touches my cheek. “Youare our future.Youare Jackson and Mia’s mom. I’m more than okay with that.”
“Okay,” I choke out because that’s all I can manage.
We both turn our heads toward the couch where Jackson has his arms wrapped around Mia. He isn’t actually supporting any of her weight because she’s lying on a pillow, but he looks so proud.
Tucker and Grayson are tucked in close on either side of them. They’re all deep in a conversation we can’t quite hear.
“He’s going to be a great big brother,” I tell Warren, squeezing his hand.
“Yeah, he really is.”
I rest my head back against the pillow, not believing this is all real.
This is my family. All six of us.
CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE
Warren
“All of youdidn’t need to wake up,” Sienna whispers, sitting up in the middle of the bed.
She doesn’t really need to whisper. It might be the middle of the night, but Mia is already wide awake and screaming.
I know eventually we’ll figure out how to handle night feeds so all four of us don’t need to be awake at the same time, but that time isn’t now.
It’s our first night home with Mia, and we weren’t going to be anywhere other than right here.
Tucker leans over, turning on the lamp. I groan, covering my eyes.
Grayson peels himself off the floor where he’s sleeping. He scoops Mia out of her bassinet.
“Shh… baby girl,” he coos, rocking her from side to side while Sienna gets situated. He leans over Tucker, handing Mia to Sienna.
Mia starts eating like she hasn’t in days, when it’s only been two hours.
Sienna starts shifting around, like she can’t get comfortable. I scoot over until my side is pressed against her back. “Lean on me, sweetheart.”
She rests her weight back against me and lets out a relieved sigh. “Thank you.” I kiss the top of her head when she tilts her head back against my shoulder.
Grayson stands at the end of the bed, stretching his arms to the ceiling. He grimaces, feeling the aches from sleeping on the floor, I’m sure.
“I need to ask Austin where he got their giant-ass bed. I don’t think I can sleep on the floor too many more times,” Grayson groans, popping his neck.
“You can go sleep in your room,” Sienna says, adjusting her hold on Mia.
Grayson shakes his head. “I’m right where I want to be, love.”
