Claire laughed. “Yeah, it kind of is.”

“Then you’ve done a great job,” Lucy said with a smile.

They toured the second and third rooms, and once they were done, Margie announced that she was taking Lucy to breakfast at the Plum Spoon.

“That way you two can catch up on business things,” she said, pulling Lucy by the arm. “We’ll see you later, Claire.”

Claire seemed to not hear her at first. After a beat, she nodded and waved them off.

“Goodbye!” Margie called out.

Chip turned to her and cleared his throat. “Would now be a good time to go over the budget for improvements, or are you meeting with Ken?”

“Ah, no. I don’t know where Ken is.”

He stared at her, for perhaps a moment too long. He needed to cool it.

Chip smiled, making sure not to stare this time. “Shall we?”

Claire nodded. “Sure.”
