“No,” Margie said, waving a hand. This wasn’t what they were supposed to be talking about. “He wanted to meet with the attorney general to tell him something. You know, he’s still chasing after Lenny.”

Morgan let out whistle. “So obsessive behavior does run in the family. When do you think it’ll become a problem for you, Jade?”

Jade laughed. “I think I’m in the clear.”

“Oh hush!” Margie said. “That’s not funny.”

Claire shrugged. “It’s kind of funny.”

“And I’m not obsessed, I just want to make sure the place cards look right! What do you think, Jade?”

She let out a sigh. “I don’t want to hurt your feelings, Mom.”

“What?” Margie put her hands on her hips. “I can take it. If you don’t like any of these, I’ll try again.”

Jade shook her head. “It’s not that. It’s just…why do we need place cards anyway? Can’t everyone just decide on their own where they’re sitting?”

Huh. Margie hadn’t thought of that. It wasn’t traditional, but…she supposed it could work. It would save them time on making a seating chart, too.

“Don’t be upset!” Jade said. “If you want, we can – ”

“No, no,” Margie held up a hand. “You’re right. What was I thinking? That’s a much better plan.”

Jade smiled. “Oh good!”

Hank strode into the dining room, giving Margie a kiss on the head. “What’s up girls?”

“Jade is dashing Margie’s dreams,” Morgan said solemnly.

“She is not!” Margie grabbed Hank by the arm and pulled him into the kitchen. “Did you hear?”

“Hear what?”

“Uncle Mike has been missing for a few weeks,” Jade yelled from the other room.

Hank raised an eyebrow. “Really?”

“Not exactly. He just called Jade, so he’s not really missing. But she’s been watching Biggles for weeks. Who knows what he’s up to?” She dropped her voice. “Do you know anything?”

He put his hands up. “I don’t know a thing. But maybe I should.”

“Yes, maybe you should.”

Hank smiled. “Do you really want to know? I mean, really?”

Margie frowned. Ofcourseshe wanted to know! At the same time, why couldn’t Mike just be happy sitting at home or taking his girlfriend to wineries? “Yes, I want to know.”

“All right then. I’ll talk to him.”

“Thank you, sweetie.”

Mike was back to not telling them what was going on. Why did he always revert to that?

Whatever he was up to, Margie had a bad feeling about it.
