“Margie!” Claire laughed. “It’s really okay. This is kind of like the time that you tried to set me up with the girls’ soccer coach. And that guy from the university.”

“No, that was different. I didn’t know them that well.”

“What about the guy who owned the bakery? Or the – ”

“Yes, yes,” Margie said. “You don’t have to list out all of my failures. I’mwellaware of them. I’ve learned from them, though!” She held up a finger. “And this time, I know that if he would just – ”

Claire put an arm around her. “I really admire your unrelenting spirit. But look! An ice cream shop! Want to go?”

Margie didn’t want to get ice cream. She wanted Mike to stop being pigheaded and to take notice of the wonderful person standing in front of him!

Why had poor Claire been so unlucky in love? She was such a sweet person, so strong, and funny, and…

“I know you can’t resist ice cream,” Claire said, dragging her toward the shop.

“I can’t,” Margie said with a sigh. She finally relented, walking alongside her friend.

Claire’s love life would have to wait just a little longer.
