Mark my words, I was going to make her mine.

CHAPTER 20

AVRIL

David: Dress for adventure ;)

What did that even mean?God, if he was taking me somewhere with bugs, I might have to kill him a little bit.

Avril: Like, wear a pirate hat?

If he took me on a hike, and I was wearing heels and a pirate hat, there would need to begrovelingon his end—a lot of it.

David: Something you would be comfortable walking in <3

David: Can’t wait to see you gorgeous

Getting ready for a date with a guy that I actually liked was a fun new way to torture myself. I had to go through three outfit changes before finding something that looked cute for this mystery adventure—a violet sundress with white sneakers and my smallest top-handle purse.

I waited for him outside my house and down the block a little. It’s not that I’m ashamed of David. Far from it.

Was I ready to drop the bombshell on my entire family that I was dating someone new? Someone who wasn’t my ex? The ex that everyone knew I had been planning on marrying? During the wedding ceremony that was circled in red sharpie on the family calendar and was basically the only thing that I’d talked about for over a year… The same wedding that my delusional ass hadn’t cancelled, even now that my ex was out of the picture…

No. Not at all. I would deal with one thing at a time, thank you very much.

David pulled up to my house in a sleek Volvo sedan, parked the car and then dashed over to open the door for me.

He looked me up and down from the driver’s seat, in a way that made my stomach flutter like I had swallowed an unfortunate butterfly.

“Do I look like I’m ready for whatever this adventure is?” I raised my eyebrow. If I wasn’t dressed right, well then that was just too bad. I wasn’t about to march back into my house and change my outfit for any man. No matter how hot he was.

“You look like all of my wildest dreams come straight to life—with walking shoes. Perfect.”

Oh.

Did he saywildest dreams? He did, didn’t he?

Well. Okay, then.

I had no idea where we were going until the twinkling lights of the Ferris wheel came into view. I hadn’t been to the amusement park in years, but it all came back: the steep tower drop ride, the glow of the carnival games, balloons and hanging prizes, the swirls and roaring of the swing ride and the exhilarating twists and loop-de-loops of the rollercoaster.

Alright, nowthisseemed more like my kind of adventure.

The two of us strolled through the crowds of shrieking children and rowdy teens. Honestly, when David was holding my hand, it was like the rest of the world wasn’t there. It just felt so right. His hand was so big, and warmth flooded up my entire arm… heating other areas of me that were not getting the message that I wouldnotbe getting laid all willy-nilly, right there on the asphalt at the crowded carnival.

Try telling that to my pussy though—she was dripping.

I was just kind of looking around, trying to hide how red my face was turning.

“Shall I win one for you?” David smiled one of his devastating smiles, andfuck…those adorable little dimples were showing again. As if David needed something to make him look evenmorehandsome.

What?

Oh, he was talking about the prizes hanging from the carnival games. We were walking past one of those booths that make you pay to knock down bottles that were probably just a bit rigged.

“That grumpy-looking frog over there is pretty cute.” I’m not really a stuffed animal kind of girl, but who could say no to an angry amphibian? The little guy was adorable and upset for no reason.

David signaled the game operator, a skinny dude with a patchy beard, and grabbed a baseball.
