“Don't worry, I got one for you too.” He tosses me a bottle and luckily, I catch it.
“And why the hell do you think I need this?”
“Because everybody needs lube, and Valentine's Day is right around the corner. By the way, that one's called Chocolate Covered Dick.”
“I have to admit I'm a bit disturbed, but also curious.” I pop open the cap, sniffing the top, and the smell of chocolate saturates the air. “This actually smells pretty good.”
“Yup, now remember there's more where that came from. Tell all your friends.”
“Pretty sure they all know.” I gesture to him and to Tuck, who is already walking away.
He stops before turning back around to grab the lube off the bar, shoving it in his pocket. “I'm taking this, not because I plan on using it, but because I don't want anyone else to wonder why it's sitting on my bar.”
Luca laughs, waving him off. “So, tell me about this guy you're seeing. Is it Mister One-Night Stand?”
My eyes grow wide. I hate how he does that, how he knows before I even tell him. Like he can smell it on me. Instead of answering, I roll my eyes and walk toward the dressing room.
He follows closely behind me, with his heels clinking loudly against the floor. “Don't think you're getting out of this conversation. I know you've been getting some. You've been coming into work a lot happier and more relaxed.”
“Luca, must you always pry in other people's business? Don't you have your own life to worry about?”
“Hardly.” He huffs, folding his arms. “I spent the last few nights making lube instead of using it. Pretty sure your life is more interesting than mine. So, who is he?”
“It's not like that.”
“You mean you aren't boning this guy?”
“I didn't say that, and what are you, in high school? Who even says that word anymore?”
“I do apparently, and what the hell are you saying exactly?”
“I'm saying it's nothing serious. Just a regular hook up.”
“You know those never work. Has he started using your toothbrush yet and leaving behind his underwear?”
I laugh, pulling off my clothes. “No, we have rules set in place for a reason, and one of them is not going to each other's homes.”
“Rules?” His face scrunches up in disgust. “Sounds awful.”
“It's not actually. It's the best sex I've ever had, and no strings attached. I have other things to focus on right now besides trying to maintain a relationship. My last one didn't exactly end well.”
“And? This guy clearly has you smitten, and I've never seen any of your ex-boyfriends make you smile like that. I give it a few weeks.”
“Until what exactly?”
“Until you're asking me to be best man in your wedding.”
“I'm not going to even comment on that.” I pull on my tight silk shorts over my jock strap and reach for my fairy wings.
“Why not, because you know I'm right?”
“No, because it's ridiculous,” I retort. “Besides, nothing could happen anyway. He could lose his job if anyone finds out.”
“Wait, why would he lose his job? Holy shit, you're banging your professor, aren't you? Man, that's kinda hot. Do you stay for after school tutoring sessions?”
“I'm not continuing this conversation with you.”
“But it just got good.” Luca's words get drowned out by the club music when I exit the dressing room, and when my eyes skim the room my heart nearly stops. Jamie is sitting at the bar in rumpled work clothes next to a guy covered in tattoos, the same guy he was with at his engagement party. When his eyes look right at me, I become tongue tied.
