My mouth claims Danny’s as I begin licking and nipping softly at his lips, caressing his mouth with my own. He smells like coconut shampoo and cream cheese frosting, and I want to wrap myself up in his scent. He tastes even better than he smells. “Cream-cheese-covered Danny, my new favorite thing.”

He laughs into my mouth before pulling away. “Stop. You’re distracting me when you’re supposed to be helping me. Are you going to help me frost these cupcakes or not?”

I glance over to the counter with nine bare cupcakes sitting next to a huge bowl of frosting. My lips turn into a pout. “Does she really need twelve cupcakes?”

He rolls his eyes. “They aren’t just for her, and if you help me, we can finish quickly and have time for other things.” I nod and quickly walk toward the kitchen. He follows closely behind me while laughing at my sudden eagerness. I roll up my sleeves and wash my hands before picking up my first cupcake to frost it. My eyes are on him the whole time until he points at the cupcake that now has way too much frosting, spilling over the sides onto my fingers.

“Oops, I guess I got a bit carried away,” I say before bringing my frosting-covered fingers to my mouth.

He looks at me in mock disappointment. “Honestly, I think you helping has actually slowed me down. I think I may have to fire you from frosting duty.”

I frown. “Well, I can’t help that my eyes were drawn to something more alluring than cupcakes.”

He snatches the cupcake from my hand. “I think I can still fix this one, lucky for you. Here, why don’t you start on this one, and make sure you actually look at the cupcake this time as you frost it? Last time I checked, I’m not a cupcake.”

I smirk. “Oh, but I’d much rather eat icing off you.”

He rolls his eyes. “Don’t make me send you back to your apartment,” he says with a smirk.

I gasp. “You wouldn’t dare.”

He points to the dessert in my hand. “Get to frosting, and this time frost the cupcake and not your whole hand.”

I dip the knife in frosting and smear it onto the vanilla cupcake until every part of it is covered and grab the rainbow sprinkles for the finishing touch. He smiles in approval before handing me another cupcake. He adds my finished product to his perfect ones that look like they came out of a magazine. Mine didn’t look anywhere near as good as his, but he doesn’t seem to mind that it isn’t perfect. An orange ball of fur rubs against my legs and lets out a purr. Sometimes, I forget Danny has a cat because Felix usually takes refuge under the couch when I’m around. He doesn’t like me too much because he probably thinks Danny likes me too much, I think I’m starting to grow on him, though. I frost four more cupcakes while Danny frosts the remaining ones. He places them inside a container and into the fridge. “Vivian is going to love them. Thank you for your help. Now I can finish wrapping her gift, and don’t worry, I don’t need any help with that.”

I wash the remaining frosting off my hands and reach for the napkins. “Good, because you don’t want to see my wrapping skills. They are way worse than my frosting skills.”

He laughs before heading to his room to grab a bag with what I’m assuming is Vivian’s gift. There is now a white square box in his hands with polka dot wrapping paper, a pink bow, and tape. His eyes move down to the box. “Oh, the gift is already in the box. I just need to wrap it. Vivian shows up unannounced sometimes, so I made sure to buy a box to put it in so she wouldn’t accidentally stumble upon it.”

I nod. “Why not just buy a gift bag and tissue paper and call it a day?”

He shakes his head. “Because then it’s over too quickly once they pull the tissue paper out, and where’s the fun in that?”

He wraps the gift while sitting on the floor, and I place myself behind him and wrap my arms around his waist while placing kisses onto his shoulders. He leans back into me, nudging the side of his face into my neck before saying, “I guess I can always finish wrapping this first thing in the morning.”

I smile into his hair, “Good, because I think it’s time for you to properly thank me for helping you with those cupcakes.”

Before I know it, we are stumbling into his bedroom completely naked and falling into the mattress, getting lost in each other’s kisses and touches that eventually lead us to erupting in pleasure, leaving us completely still in one another’s arms. The shower that comes afterward ends up being this sweet, intimate moment with him that I’ve never shared with anyone else before, and suddenly, showering with someone else isn’t such a bad thing.

I don’t plan on going back to my apartment, and he doesn’t protest when I lead him back into the bed with me. He presses his back into the front of my body as I wrap my arms around him while burying my face into the back of his nape. His breathing slows as his body goes completely still, except for the steady rise and fall of his bare chest. This is always my favorite part at the end of a long day, ending it with him in my arms. I wish I could end every day like this, and maybe someday I can.

Everything worked out the way it was supposed to. Danny is everything I could ever want. He is smart, funny, and beautiful inside and out, and I’m falling for him more and more each day. The way he looks at me so lovingly with beaming eyes makes me think the feeling is mutual. I’m reminded every day of the effect Danny has on me by how my heart races when he enters a room and how my body automatically gravitates toward his. Two months later, and I still want him as much as I did when my eyes first met his, and I have a feeling I would still feel this exact way many years from now. Danny belongs to me, and I belong to him. Whatever happened before no longer matters. All that matters is that I’m the one who gets to call him mine.
