“Did you see that?” Jayce exclaimed as he ran over to us, nearly tripping over a woman’s purse that was laying on the floor near her chair.
“They loved us, man,” Chase slurred, tossing an arm around Jayce’s shoulder.
“Dudes, we should totally start a band,” Phillip exclaimed. I chuckled as they all started shouting out possible names for their band at once.
“Think they’ll remember any of this in the morning?” Cole whispered, his words dripping with amusement.
I shook my head. “Not a chance.”
“Hey, let’s get out of here. I feel like dancing.” My eyes widened at Jayce’s suggestion. He’d always told me he hated dancing because he had two left feet. If the look on his brother’s face was any indication, he was just as surprised as I was.
Cole shrugged his shoulders indulgently. “This is your night, bud. If that’s what you want to do, then we’ll do it.”
Jayce leaned over and gave him a sloppy, wet kiss on the cheek. “This is why you’re my favorite brother.”
“I’m youronlybrother,” Cole pointed out as he wiped his cheek with the back of his hand.
“I’ll go take care of the tab, if you want to try to wrangle these guys into the limo,” I told him. He nodded his head gratefully then got to work corralling the four guys who seemed determined to wander off in the opposite direction of the front door. I made sure he got outside then went to the bartender to settle our bill.
I chose a club next, since Jayce wanted to dance. I hadn’t been there before, but I’d heard about it from a friend. It had opened just a few months before and was very popular, if the number of people inside were any indication. The dance floor was full of men and women dancing together, as well as women with other women, and men with men, all of them sweating and grinding to the beat of the loud, thumping music.
Cole ordered Jayce and his friends another round, then they disappeared into the throng of dancers as he handed me a water. My fingers purposefully brushed over his as I took the glass, and it felt like an electric current rushing over my skin.
I leaned down, my mouth right next to his ear. “I’ve been hoping to get a moment alone with you all night.” Despite the pulsing music, I could hear his sharp intake of air, reminding me of the way he’d responded to my kiss, and I was glad I’d decided to just tell him how I felt.
“Me too,” he whispered, his breath ghosting across the side of my cheek.
I pulled back so I could see him better. His eyes had turned a dark, mossy color, and his cheeks were flushed, and I suspected it was from both the heat of the club and his arousal. His bottom lip was wet and red, as if he’d been biting it, and I swallowed thickly, looking over his shoulder to where Jayce and the others were dancing.
“Do you want to dance?” I would’ve rather asked if I could kiss him again, but with his brother and my best friend nearby, I would have to do with simply holding him close instead.
Cole nodded his head, so I took both of our drinks and set them on the bar before taking his hand and leading him onto the dance floor. I pulled him into the crowd, giving us a bit of privacy from our friends then turned to face him. His eyes searched my face as I tugged him in close and placed my hands on his hips. His hands went to my biceps as we started to move. I was pleased to find that unlike his brother, he was a great dancer.
The smell of sweat and pheromones hung heavy in the air, creating an intoxicating environment for the things I was already feeling. I wanted to pull him in closer, to feel his body rubbing up on mine, but I didn’t dare for fear that Jayce would see. Instead, I simply enjoyed finally having him to myself. We danced our way through three more songs, then Cole said he needed a drink of water.
“I’ll go get us some,” I offered.
“Thanks. I’m just going to use the restroom.”
As he walked away, my eyes strayed to his jeans clinging to his perfect bubble butt. He turned and looked at me over his shoulder, as if he knew I was watching. Not that it was too hard to imagine. After all, I’d been drawn to him like a moth to a flame ever since I’d seen him again. My heart pounded wildly as he gave me a flirtatious wink. I stood there, smiling like a loon as he disappeared into the crowd.
Someone bumped into me, shaking me out of my stupor and reminding me that I was supposed to be getting drinks. As I waited for the bartender to get our waters, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned, expecting to see Cole, but instead, I was met with a very sweaty, very smiley Phillip.
“Hey, I remember you. You’re Chase’s friend.”
“Jayce’s,” I corrected, trying to hide my amusement as his face fell.
“Yeeeaaah. That’s the one.” I reached a hand out to steady him when he started to sway backwards.
Turner walked up just then. He gave me a lopsided grin, but he looked a little more sober than Phillip. “Hey, man. Jayce is pretty wasted, so I texted Evelynn and told her he could just sleep it off back at our hotel.” I looked over his shoulder at where Chase was basically holding my best friend up. He looked like he was in pretty bad shape, and I didn’t envy the headache he was bound to have the next day.
I scratched a hand over my jaw, looking over in the direction of the restrooms. “Um, yeah, okay. Just give me a few minutes. Cole just left to go to the bathroom.”
“No need. We can take care of Jayce. You two stay and keep having fun.” He gave me a little wink that made me think he might have seen me and Cole dancing together, but before I could come up with a response, he turned and walked away.
A few minutes later, I spotted Cole heading my way, his forehead wrinkled as he looked around. “Sorry it took so long, there was a line at the bathroom. Have you seen Jayce or his friends?” he asked once he was standing near me.
I handed him his water and he took a quick drink. “Yeah, they headed back to the hotel. Apparently, Jayce was pretty trashed, so they’re going to let him sleep it off there.”
