“I have never been happier, my lord,” Louise said, with a beautiful smile plastered on her face.
“I hope to see more of your beautiful face, Lady Louise,” Callum said before he walked away.
“Did the Marquess just compliment her?”
“Do you think he is interested in courting her?”
“I saw them take a walk yesterday…”
Callum smiled at the number of whispers that followed his simple gesture toward Louise. The ladies were not the only ones who seemed to have noticed his interest in Louise. Even the gentlemen seemed just as interested as they all craned their necks to take a good look at Louise.
The plan is now set in motion. He knew that before the end of the day, the entiretonwould have heard that he was courting Louise and this would, in turn, make her seem like a more attractive lady to the eligible bachelors.
ChapterSeven
Louise was not oblivious to the amount of attention she had gotten just because of Callum’s seeming interest in her.Callum really was right.Eligible bachelors who had not spared Louise a glance ever since the incident of the previous day were presently looking at her as though she was the most beautiful lady of theton. Even the other ladies who had been a little hostile toward her now seemed nicer. Except for her friends.
“Lady Louise, you must attend the ball my mother is throwing soon,” one of the ladies said.
“Is that so?” Louise asked, “I shall try to be in attendance.” She made sure not to act too eager.
“The charade game is too divisive,” one of the ladies said, “I think we should just play Riddles.” It was obvious that the ladies would rather not play Charade anymore.
“I will give the first Riddle,” one of the ladies said.
“I am the most eligible bachelor in London who also happens to be a notorious rake. Who am I?” She said.
The other ladies giggled and laughed.
Louise could not help but laugh herself. It was obvious that they were talking about Callum. While the ladies were too preoccupied with playing the riddle game, Louise turned to the side and took a sneak peek at the note that Callum had given her.
Dear Lady Louise,
I would be overjoyed if you could meet me at our rendezvous point. It will all make sense to you when you get to the room.
Your partner in crime, Callum Madsen
Louise could not help the smile that crept on her face. The idea of spending time with Callum was exciting to her especially if it meant that she would be away from Emily and her friends.
While she was confused as to what Callum wanted in the room, the memory of the last time she was there with him prevailed. Her whole body tingled over even as she remembered the steamy kiss she had shared with Callum and how her body had felt afterward.
Louise yawned dramatically. “Ladies, I am sorry I would not be able to participate in the game of Riddles. I am quite tired from all the activities of the day and I would like to retire for the night.”
“Such a shame. We would have loved to still have you here,” Lady Emily said sarcastically and some of the other ladies laughed.
With that, Louise left. While she knew that the ladies would definitely gossip about her the moment she turned her back, she did not care. She was too ecstatic at the fact that she would get to spend some time alone with Callum. He might be a well-known rake but he was the one man who made her feel truly appreciated.
Just to be safe in case she was being followed, Louise took a false route at first before she took a shorter route and emerged from the corridor where the room was. She looked around to see that no one could see her before she slipped into the room silently.
When Louise entered the room this time, it was not dark as it was the first time. The room was dimly lit with candles and there were two chaise lounges in there. At first, Louise did not see Callum but when she peered closely, she saw him perched on one of the chaises.
“I was beginning to think you would never come,” Callum said.
“Well, here I am,” Louise said, standing awkwardly in the middle of the room, “why did you summon me? Or is this an elaborate ploy to seduce me?”
“This is the reason,” he said, pointing at a bottle of wine and two glasses on the table, “If I wished to seduce you, you would not see it coming at all.” Louise smiled but she quickly acted like she was not impressed.
“I could get a glass of wine in the game room, why did you summon me here?” She asked again.
