"Just a second!"Fox calls, his voice calm and steady as if we weren’t seconds away from being caught.

I glare at him, but he just smirks, adjusting his shirt and running a hand through his hair.He looks perfectly normal, while I feel like a complete mess.

Fox steps close to me again, leaning in to whisper, "To be continued."He presses a quick kiss on my cheek before unlocking the door and opening it.

An elderly man stands outside, looking slightly irritated.Fox steps aside, motioning for him to enter, and then gestures for me to follow him out.

We walk back to the table, my face still flushed, and I can feel my mom and Lila’s eyes on us.I drop into my seat, avoiding their gazes, while Fox sits beside me, looking as composed as ever.

"Everything okay?"Lila asks, a suspicious smile tugging at her lips.

"Yeah, just needed some air," Fox replies smoothly, giving her one of his charming grins.

I reach for my water, gulping it down in hopes of calming my nerves.Fox’s hand slides under the table to rest on my thigh, giving it a gentle squeeze.

"Seven minutes wasn’t enough," he whispers, and I nearly choke on my water.

This man is going to be the death of me.

“We should probably head home,” Lila says, grabbing her purse.

“Yeah, we should too,” my mom agrees, adjusting her handbag.

Lila turns to her.“Are you driving back home tonight?”

“Not really.I’ll be leaving in the morning.I’ll just look for a cheap motel to spend the night,” Mom replies, her gaze shifting toward Fox, who is lounging back in his chair, looking as composed as ever.

“No, you don’t have to,” Fox interjects smoothly, sitting up.“You can stay in the apartment for the night.Cam can sleep in my room, and you can take his.”

I turn sharply to look at him, my eyes narrowing. What is he doing?

“Aw, honey,” Lila says, beaming at her son.

“Where are you going to spend the night?”I ask Fox, shooting him a discreet glare.

He smirks at me knowingly.“I’ll be fine.I’ll spend the night at my mom’s.”He tilts his head toward Lila as if it’s already decided.

“I hope I see you around, Jane.It was so nice to meet you,” Lila says warmly to my mom.

Mom smiles back, nodding.“The pleasure was mine. Please take care, Lila.”

Fox stands and gently places his hand on the small of his mom’s back, escorting her out of the restaurant. My gaze lingers on him as they walk away, my mind spinning. Why is he being so accommodating?I thought we wanted to spend the night together.

I sigh and follow my mom to the car, trying not to let my frustration show.

Later that night, as I rifle through my wardrobe for a blanket for Mom, her voice echoes in the room.

"He's a nice young man," she says, her tone soft.I glance at her briefly. She's been talking about Fox nonstop since we got back, and it's starting to feel...weird.

"He's got a girlfriend, right?"she asks casually.

My back is to her, but I roll my eyes."I don't know, Mom.Fox likes to keep his private life private.Plus, he's barely in the apartment.Always out."

I grab the blanket and hand it to her, sighing."You should get some sleep, Mom."

As I turn to leave, she stops me.

"Cam?"Her voice holds a hint of hesitation.I pause and look at her.
