At night, when I’m alone in my frat house bedroom, Cameron is still there, in my thoughts, filling the empty space next to me.No matter how hard I try to push him out of my head, I always circle back to him.I’ve wanted him since the moment I realized how much he cared about me—how worried he’d get when I didn’t show up at our apartment, even after I treated him like shit.

I didn’t deserve that.

This is all so fucked up, but I don’t care anymore.I can’t lose him to Blaze—whether Blaze is gay or not.I can’t stand the thought of watching Blaze seduce him.And if Cameron doesn’t feel the same way anymore, it’s going to destroy me.

“Fox, are you even listening?”

My mom’s voice snaps me out of my spiraling thoughts.I glance over at her, her brows furrowed with concern.

“Uh… you were saying?”

“What are you thinking about, son?”she asks, her voice softer now.

“Nothing.I’m fine.Just exhausted.”

“You don’t look fine.Aren’t you happy about the game?Your team won, and you scored two goals.I’m so proud of you, baby,” she says, reaching over to pinch my cheek.

“Mom.I’m driving,” I groan, brushing her hand away.“And I’m not a kid anymore.”

“You’re still my kid,” she says with a smirk.

I chuckle under my breath, shaking my head.

“Where’s your roommate? You couldn’t even introduce him to your mom. What’s your problem, Fox?Are you fighting with him?”

“I’m not,” I lie.“He was the blonde talking with Blaze.”

Her eyes widen.“No way.I should’ve said hi to him!”

“It’s fine. You can meet him next time.”

“He’s a good-looking man,” she says, smiling.

I glance at her, rolling my eyes.“Mom, please.”

“I’m sorry your dad wasn’t there to watch,” she says after a moment.

“He’s the school’s chancellor. You didn’t really expect him to show up, did you?”I reply, my voice flat.

She sighs, nodding.

“Well, you were quite the star out there.A lot of girls wanted to have your babies,” she teases.

I scoff.“That doesn’t make me popular.They’re just girls.”

“Hmm mm,” she hums knowingly, and I don’t have to look at her to know she’s smirking.

The rest of the ride is quiet. When I pull up to my dad’s mansion, she turns to me as she opens the passenger door.

“You coming in?”

“Nah,” I say, shaking my head.“The guys are throwing a party at some elite club to celebrate.I gotta be there.”

I force a smile, but the truth is, I have no intention of going.I’m not in the mood to celebrate.I need to get back to the apartment and talk to Cameron.I can’t lose him.I don’t think I could live with myself if I did. He’s the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time.

“Be careful out there,” Mom says, leaning over to kiss my cheek.

I frown at her, though there’s no real heat in it.“You too, Mom.And I can’t wait to read that book.”
