“That was Leanne,” I reply, shrugging his arm off me.
“She hugged you like you two were about to kiss or something.”He laughs, but I turn to glare at him.
“Shut up.”
Landon grins, unfazed.“I’m kidding.Besides, you wouldn’t dare. Not with Fox Wilder watching you like a hawk every chance he gets.”
I freeze, my head whipping around.Sure enough, there’s Fox, standing outside the café, completely ignoring whatever Blaze is saying to him.His glare is fixed on me, sharp and unrelenting. The blonde girl from earlier is nowhere to be seen.
“Let’s go,” I say quickly, grabbing Landon’s arm and pulling him along.
Landon chuckles but follows my lead as we head toward campus.
“I’ve got one more class, then I’m off to work,” I tell him.
“Got it.I’ll swing by later to check on you and Nat,” he says, slapping my shoulder before veering off in a different direction.
By the time I sling my backpack over my shoulder and mutter a tired goodbye to Katie, I’m fried. My feet ache, my shirt reeks of grease, and the diner bell’s echo is still rattling in my head.Nat falls into step beside me as we head out.My phone buzzes in my pocket—Blaze.Of course, it’s Blaze.
Blaze:Still coming to the game on Friday?
I shove my phone back into my pocket without replying.
Landon’s car is already waiting at the curb when we step outside.
“Any plans for Christmas break?”Nat asks, sliding into the back seat of Landon’s car.
I drop into the passenger seat, placing my backpack on the floor.
“What are your plans?”Landon teases as he starts the car.“Same as always—spending time with your girlfriend?”
“I don’t even have a girlfriend, you dumbass,” Nat fires back, and I laugh under my breath.
“I thought you were dating someone,” I say, looking back at her.
“Well, not all of us are lucky enough to date someone long-term like Landon,” Nat replies.
“Perfect time to tell you guys—Andrew and I are done,” Landon says casually, keeping his eyes on the road.
“No shit,” I mutter, stunned.
“Yup.”
“Did he…?”Nat begins, but Landon cuts her off.
“No fucking way.It wasn’t him.I wasn’t feeling it, so I ended it.Needed a break—from guys and all the drama.”
“Fair,” Nat says, dragging the word out.“But Andrew was nice.I thought you’ve finally settled down with ‘the one’.”
“He was nice,” Landon agrees, “but terrible at communication.I couldn’t do it anymore.”
I sigh, unsure of what to say.
“What about you, Cam?”Landon asks, shooting me a glance.“Any progress with Fox?”
I shake my head.“Nothing to report.”
“It’s time you two had a real conversation,” Nat says from the back seat.“If he doesn’t want you, he needs to say it so you can move the fuck on.The watching and stalking is getting old.”
