“I can’t stop thinking about how this vampire was different, though. I want to know when and how Enzo started creating more stealthy and faster vamps. For anyone to beat out Braden? Shit, that vamp had to be juiced up with something.”

Logan’s demeanor changed entirely after we stopped whatever was about to happen out by the pool. “Do you think we’ll have to move because of what happened? Do we need to worry about Enzo’s guys showing up here to take me?”

“Zac will know more about that when he gets done scouting.” He stood up, “Do you want your lunch poolside or inside?”

“Ah, yes. Inside is fine,” I swam over to the steps, “I’m starving.”

“We need to replenish your health before drawing more blood.” He looked over at me, “You up for another blood draw?”

“Question is,” I said, drying myself off as Logan walked over to me and watched me with a look in his eye that set my skin on fire, “Are you guys okay around my blood like that?”

“We’re fine. We’re not going to lose control around you if that’s what you’re worried about.” His voice was low and husky as he moved behind me and started to massage my shoulders.

His firm hands were unwinding knots I didn’t know I had. My head dropped back and rested against his chest before my whole body melted back into his. “I can’t get all crazy again. Not until we’ve taken care of Braden.”

“Yeah,” I could tell he was calming himself down. “We need to get more blood to him.You want hot or cold for lunch?”

“I don’t care, I can eat whatever.”

“I’m going to go check on Braden,” Logan said. “I can stay and show you around the kitchen before I leave if you’d like.”

I glanced over at every chef’s dream kitchen and the massive fridge and laughed, “I think I can manage. Please check on Braden, it’s killing me not knowing how he’s doing.”

Logan’s expression changed, “You really feel that way? About helping Braden?”

“I do,” I said confidently. “Listen, I’m just as confused as anyone with what’s going on between the five of us. I’m really worried about him.”

Logan smiled, “That’s good to know.” He turned to leave, “I’ll be back in a few. Eat up and replenish, what you’re doing for Braden is tremendous.”

“Thanks. It must be the bond?” I shrugged.

“Now, you’re catching on,” he smirked. “Get something to eat. I’ll check on Braden, and then Cole and I need to do a little research. There was a Life Blood in a coven of male vamps once that we know of. We’re hoping that maybe we can get some insight about what’s going on with all of us from that.”

“Do you think that situation was the same as ours?”

“Doubtful, but it’s worth looking at. The girls probably told you this already, but once the four of us came into contact with you and this sensation took over, we cut them off entirely. Braden was even at the point where he needed to feed the night he saved you from those douchebags, but after he made contact with you, that’s when he changed. We all felt it, being connected like we are, but we couldn’t understand why Braden wouldn’t so much as touch Val for her blood. Braden didn’t even understand it. That’s why he played that little cat trick with Boots on you.”

“He sent Boots up to my room?” I asked in disbelief.

Logan nodded, “He needed to see you again to validate the feelings he was having. That’s when it was confirmed you were the one. The Life Blood we were sensing since when we moved back to this town.”

“I remember him asking me that night to have lunch with all of you the next day, but when I walked into the cafeteria, you all looked at me like I was an alien.”

“Yeah, sorry about that. Braden wanted you there, but the rest of us didn’t trust ourselves around you yet. Honestly, we felt it was best to get to know you individually.”

“Okay. So why did Zac go from liking me that day to being a jerk?”

“Zac was testing himself with you. He’s an arrogant ass like that.” He laughed, “He has a thing for being in control, but he lost that when your little spell was cast on him.”

“Spell? I didn’t do shit to him. Why couldn’t he see that?”

“Easy there, Ellie, once you get to know Zac better, you’ll understand. I’m just glad he’s finally accepted it, just took him longer.” He smiled, “Now that Zac’s back in tune with all of us, we can protect you better and make sure Enzo doesn’t get anywhere near you.”

“I understand. I’ll let you go figure out what’s up with Braden. Can you please let me know when Cole’s ready for me to donate more blood?”

“Donate?” Logan laughed.

“It sounds more reasonable in my head saying it like that.”
