Until suddenly the door behind us slams into Bella, forcing her to rip her mouth from mine with a cry of pain.
“Shit, who the fuck is in there?” a deep male voice calls.
I cradle Bella’s head to my chest as Jason, the owner of O’Malley’s, saunters into his office. He takes one look at me huffing and puffing like a caveman, rubbing Bella’s head, then spins on his heel and walks right back out.
“Don’t take it too far. I don’t want to wash anything,” he calls over his shoulder. The door closes a second later, basking us in silence once more.
“Are you okay?” I ask, surprised to hear how thick and gravelly my voice sounds.
She steps out of my embrace and I fucking hate Jason for ending that kiss.
That was the best kiss of my entire life.
Though something tells me it will always feel like that with Bella.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Was more a shock than anything.” Clearing her throat, she straightens. “I think that was a good practice run.”
“Practice?” I ask.
“For the agreement.”
Fuck.
“Right…for the agreement.”
She straightens my shirt on her body and God, she looks perfect in it.
“They’ll know we’ve done it before now. Won’t be awkward.”
“Nothing about that was awkward,” I’m quick to defend.
A coy smile stretches across her lips. “I know, Grayson.”
Our eyes catch and hold for what feels like an eternity.
“Should we go back out there?” she asks.
Everything in me is screaming no. But I have no other reason to stay besides that I want to keep kissing her. That all I want is to throw her over my shoulder and take her home, but I can’t.
So instead, I settle on, “Yeah, let’s go back to the booth.”
I’m going to spend the rest of the night looking for the perfect excuse to kiss her again because that…that waseverythingto me.
An opportunity to kiss her again never came.
And I hate the night for it.
