He moves out of the way.I get right over her, hoveringmy much larger frame over her smaller one. I use every inch of my body to intimidate her.“What did Cara have to do with anything?”
“I didn’t know she did,” she sobs. “I don’t know why he wants her. When he said he’d help me get Lyra back, I didn’t question it.”
“Do you know what kind of sick fuck your brother is?” I ask her.
More tears fall. She shakes her head. “I had no idea.”
“Where is she?”
“Goussainville,” she says with a whimper.“It’s just north.”
“It’s a ghost town,” Henry tells us.“It’s a ghost town. How many people are there?”
“JustNiko and his friend. Jake, you have to hurry. They’re leaving tonight.”
“Leaving for where?” I jolt.
“I don’t know. I heard them talking. What theywere going to do to her and Lyra.Even me.I tried to get them both, but Cara wouldn’t come. She told me tobring Lyra to you.”
“I’m calling the police,” Dane says as he takes out his phone.
“Dane,” I call out before hehits send. I swing, connecting my fist with his jaw, catching him completely off-guard.His eyes roll back in his head as he falls to the ground.
“What the hell was that?” Angel yells, looking at me like I’ve lost my mind.
“No one calls the police or anyone else. Am I clear?”
All their mouths hang open. All but Maddox. I meet his eyes, and he nods as he goes to his room.He returns carrying two nine millimeters.
“You know how to use that?” Henry asks me warily.
I take the gun, slide in the clip, and release the safety. His jaw tightens, but he nods.
“Where the hell did you learn that?” Angel asks, still in disbelief.
“Dad was a cop, remember?Learned how to use one of these when I was eight.”
“He wakes up,” Maddox points at Dane, “tie his ass up. I do not want him anywhere around this. He’s fucking reckless when it comes to shit like this. You ready?” he asks me.
I nod.
“I’m coming too,” Henrycalls out as we head to the door. “You can’t be sure there’s only two.”
“What am I supposed to do with her, mate?” Ryder nods
“Make sure she’s gone before I get back.”
Cara
I sit in the corner of the filthy room, struggling to keep my eyes open. I have refused to close themsince I woke up here.
I’m constantly listening for Niko, as Peyton called him, toreturn. I know I don’t have much time. As soon as he realizeshis sister is gone, he’ll come.
His sisters.
When my eyes first opened in this place,so many memories threatened to flood. I felt theraw edges of panic grabbing my heart.I knew I was going to be paralyzed with it.
Until I heard Lyra crying.
