“So, how did it go? Are they okay?” Catalina inquires. I take my seat behind my mahogany, executive desk on my customized, ergonomic cushioned chair.

“Yeah, they’ll be fine. I gave them everything they needed. Sonny collected himself, but I think it’ll hit him more later. It’s a good thing he has Willow with him. But let’s move on to business.”

“What did Maeve say?” Niccolo starts as he sits to the left of my desk on the jade, leather Chesterfield-style couch along with Isabella. Catalina leans against the wall near the door, always ready to take off if needed.

“She said to call her once we were all here. Something about Andrei being in some shit.”

“Fuck, I knew that asshole was into something shady. The transporter we killed earlier told us that someone in our alliance was selling tainted drugs. They fucking laced our product, D,” Catalina exclaims, raging with anger that will soon pop off if she doesn’t calm down. And an unhinged Catalina is someone who can never be stopped.

“Alright, let’s hear from Maeve first before making conclusions.” The look she’s giving me seems to only exacerbate her anger, and honestly, it’s stupid to think it would make her calm.

Pulling out my phone from my pocket, I redial Maeve’s phone and we wait impatiently for her to answer. Catalina starts pacing, Isabella shakes her leg up and down, and Niccolo won’t stop clenching and unclenching his jaw.

“Hey, D. I assume everyone’s on?” Maeve answers.

“Yeah, you’ve got Niccolo, Catalina, Isabella, and I. So what did October find out about Andrei?”

“It’s what we suspected for the past few months, D. Fucking piece of shite needs to pay.” Catalina’s eyebrows shoot up in acknowledgment, waiting for Maeve to explain further.

“Break it down, Maeve,” Niccolo states.

“He’s not only the one lacing the drugs we supply, but October picked up a transcribed phone call he had with the Albanians in Chicago. He’s going out of the fucking alliance to include the fucking skin trade. She also overheard that his sons, Ilya, Vadim, and Akim, were encouraging him to take us out and take over our territories.”

The look on all our faces morphs from shock, to anger, to downright ready for revenge. Andrei and his sons will have their day of reckoning, and it will happen soon.

MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT by Elley Duhe

Thismotherfucker will die. No matter the cost, even if I have to die in the process,he will die. Not only is he lacing our drugs to make them more powerful and lethal, getting involved with someone outside of our alliance who is involved in trafficking, but the one that makes me full of fury is the hit out on all of us.

“I fucking knew it! He’s going to fuc—”

“Catalina, stop. Let Maeve finish,” Dario orders. I’m about to open my mouth when he raises his eyebrow to try him and see what happens. Taking a deep breath, I relax and let Maeve continue talking.

“Catalina’s right. We all knew it, but we thought since we had the majority in the alliance, he wouldn’t step out of line. Weunderestimated him. We will not do that again, and he will pay,” Maeve interjects, overcome with anger.

“So we have to come up with a plan. We need to meet, Maeve. This weekend in Shreveport, can you make it?” Niccolo declares, sitting up and approaching Dario’s phone.

“Yes. Use the encrypted group chat to name the time. I’m assuming the casino, right?”

“Yes, the casino. I’ll text you the time. Thank you for informing us tonight, Mae. This definitely couldn’t hold off any longer,” Niccolo says.

“Slán.” Maeve hangs up before we say goodbye, and we are left reeling from the bomb dropped on us.

I had a feeling all this time, but Alejandro and I were doing our due diligence to make sure everything was true so as not to create a war when it wasn’t needed.Pero este pedazo de mierda quería jodernos.Niccolo returns to sit near Isabella and she shifts in her seat. I swear, if she doesn’t express her feelings towards him, it’s going to ruin our whole relationship before it even starts.

“You and Isabella go to Shreveport by yourselves this weekend so we don’t drive suspicion towards Andrei. The fact that three heads of our alliance will be together without him will put him on high alert. So, we need to play it safe. We’ll take Sonny and Willow as a ruse. We’ll say we are taking them to see the casino and visit y’all. Maeve can take October with her to run an updated software for the casino’s security,” Dario explains. It’s not a bad plan, but taking Sonny and Willow doesn’t really make sense. Perhaps Dario’s a little smitten by the good lawyer and his doctor friend.

“Is there a reason why Sonny and Willow are going to be coming with us? Good boy got under your skin, huh?” I chuckle, smirking at him because I know it will piss him off.

Dario stalks towards me, grabs my face by the jaw, squeezes tightly, and spits out, “You better watch that mouth, dablita. I can only take your shit for so long before you need to be taught a lesson.”

Holy fuck.Maybe I need to piss him off more if he’s going to go allDaddyon me.

“So I’m guessing that’s a yes,Daddy,” I say, throwing him a playful wink. Dario rolls his eyes and lets go of my face, walking back to his desk.

“Awww, did I hit a nerve?” Niccolo and Isabella snicker and shake their heads from their spots on the couch.

“I know you feel it, too. You know something was in the air as soon as we spotted them in the room. We should explore that with them,” Niccolo declares.
