"I'm so glad I didn't use Holly for that," he says, cringing as he shakes the gun out while I drop the man to the floor in front of me.

"No point trying to get it off yet. Who knows if you'll be sticking it in someone else's mouth again once we're inside," I say, stepping over the man at my feet, accidentallykicking him in the process.

We silently make our way towards the door at the side of the building that's propped open by a shovel.

"Guess we won't be needing the UDC after all," I whisper, picking up the shovel and walking inside what seems to have been an old stairwell, except there are no longer stairs leading to the level above, just a pile of crumbled concrete and a metal rail along the wall.

Kaleb quietly closes the door behind us, and then we remain still, listening for any noises, or movement inside.

Hearing a muffled conversation confirms that there's at least two people in the other part of the factory.

I glance over my shoulder at Kaleb, and he nods, holding up two fingers to assure me that he can also hear them.

He pulls his other gun from the holster around his leg, flicking off the safety.

Taking a deep breath, I do the same, closing my eyes as I focus on the weight of them in my hands and then think about the situation ahead of us.

Opening my eyes I turn back to Kaleb, seeing him looking off into the distance, a blank expression on his face.

I nudge him to gain his attention.

"Don't be stupid," I whisper. "You have a family now. You be careful."

He scowls at me but nods his head regardless.

"I'll shoot anyone that isn't Danny and then go wait outside."

"Okay, good. Ready?"

"Always," he says, smirking at me.

Chapter Fifty-Two

Jaylen

Neither of us care about being quiet or subtle as we burst through the door that leads to the wide open space where Danny and another man are, sitting on a pair of run down, tatty sun loungers.

Before they've even turned to look at us, Kaleb pulls the trigger on both of his guns, his bullet flying across the room and hitting the man beside Danny square in the head.

The look of shock and dread on Danny's face brings me joy, but he recovers quickly and throws himself to the floor, in front of the bleeding man beside him.

"Get out," I shout at Kaleb, charging toward the middle of the room with both guns raised, ready to shoot Danny as soon as he pops his head back up.

I don't take my eyes off the spot where he's hiding, not wanting to miss a single thing and chance getting myself hit.

"You must've known I was looking for you, aye. How nice it is that you're delivering yourself to me on a silver platter," he taunts.

Stepping closer to where the sun loungers are, I peer around the side of the dead man slumped over in the chair and see Danny beneathhis limp body, coated in his blood as he tries to reach for a gun that's on the floor a couple metres ahead of him.

Raising my gun, I aim for the one that's lying on the floor and pull the trigger, watching as the gun skitters further away from him due to the force of my bullet.

"You can try and get a rise out of me all you like, Danny boy. It won't work," I tell him, stepping around the sun lounger so that I'm now directly in front of him, sneering down at the coward. "I didn't come to play games."

He grits his teeth together as he stares up at me with a venomous gaze.

"I'll fucking kill you!" he shouts, jumping up and leaping onto me, landing a hit straight to my jaw.

Throwing both guns a good distance away from us so that he can't use them against me, I allow him to get one more hit in before I sweep my legs behind his, tripping him up and forcing him to fall on his back.
