“Ma’am, we don’t have enough space for that many people. We can only have one hundred people in the room to be comfortable. I’m pretty sure the listing said that,” Amber said with a sigh.
Annoyance built inside me, and I didn’t bother to bite my tongue. She wanted to make Emma feel stupid? I could do the same to her.
My demon bared his sharp teeth; violence filled our shared body and burned through our veins.
“If I may,” I interjected.
Amber turned toward me, all irritation wiped away from her face and replaced with desire. The middle-aged woman didn’t stand a chance with me, so I didn’t know where she got the idea that she could look at me the way she did.
“You didn’t list the amount when I checked to make sure, and nowhere did it say one hundred people.”
“Mr. Volkov,” Emma whispered.
I gave her a warning look before I turned my glare to Amber, whose jaw had dropped.
“Sorry?” she said, her voice shrill.
“You’re not sorry,” I said. “We’ll take our business elsewhere.”
Placing my hand on the small of Emma’s back, I guided her beside me as we walked away from the baffled older woman.
“You’re an asshole!” she shouted behind us.
“And you need to update your listing,” I threw back.
“Sir,” Emma whispered harshly.
“Ms. Hayes,” I said in a bored tone.
We strolled out of the building and into the cold. I dragged Emma closer to my side, offering her warmth since she wore a skirt just above her knees, stockings, and a long-sleeved shirt with a light jacket. I enjoyed seeing her in an outfit like that, but with the snowstorm coming in, I wanted to strangle her and demand to know why she dressed in clothes that wouldn’t keep her warm.
“Because you told her that you want her to dress this way, you fucking idiot. You said you wanted easy access to her sweet pussy,”my inner demon said with a roll of his eyes.
My lips thinned into a harsh line.
“You really didn’t have to go that far,” Emma said.
We walked on the sidewalk, headed to my car parked a few blocks down.
I glanced at her, finding her looking at me with her innocent emerald eyes. “I didn’t like how she spoke to you,” I said.
A tiny smile crept to her face, and she looked away, watching where we were going. “You weren’t going to hurt her, were you?”
“I thought about it.”
Emma stopped and spun to face me. Her jaw fell open, and her face paled. “Did you?”
“Yes.” The corner of my lip twitched.
Emma noticed and blinked. After a heartbeat, a laugh bubbled out of her. “You’re teasing me?”
I fisted the bottom of her shirt and yanked her toward me as I leaned down until our lips were centimeters away. Her breathing picked up, and I could hear her heart pounding. “Yes, sunshine,” I whispered.
Emma drew back, surprising me when she didn’t take the chance to kiss me. She’d always begged me for them. “You’re a jerk.”
I scoffed and straightened. Placing my hand on her lower back, I walked alongside her.
“I know,” I said. It wasn’t news to me that I was an asshole.
