My scoff made him laugh. “If you think that’s going to be enough groveling, you’re crazier than I thought, pretty birdie.”
He managed not to laugh, but it was close. “What are you going to order for dinner?”
That was a wonderful way to change the subject…and I was going to let him…but we were definitely going to come back to our punishments conversation later.
Chapter 10
Conner
Work done.
Belly full.
Now it was just time to figure out how to apologize.
I knew I owed him one—I wasn’t an idiot—but I wasn’t sure how to approach it. He wasn’t like anyone I’d ever dated, casually or seriously. Ben was…he was unique.
And I did understand the irony of me saying that.
“Your mind is whirling, my pretty birdie.” He was smiling and looked wonderfully relaxed as he stretched out in what seemed to be his favorite chair, full from too much Chinese food, but there was a spark of something in his eyes…worry, maybe?
It was enough to have me getting up off my ass and tossing one of the couch pillows at his feet. It seemed like it was going to be my place, so I didn’t fight the urge to curl up with him…just like I hadn’t fought the urge tofreshen upearlier…some things were just obvious.
Ben chuckled, spreading his legs and moving it closer as I walked over. It would’ve been sexier if I’d been in anything else, but work clothes would have to do since naked didn’t seem like it would be the right option at the moment.
Some apologies should be made naked…some, sadly, needed to be made with clothes on.
There was some kind of graceful kneel I was supposed to do judging by the videos I’d seen online, but I was in jeans and a flannel shirt and looked a bit like a lumberjack, so he was going to have to appreciate me cuddling instead of looking sweet and submissive.
I’d practice that later.
If he was going to own a BDSM club, I’d be the most fabulous sub there, but that would have to wait.
Apologies first and building the club second.
When I was curled up between his feet with his thigh as my pillow, I looked up at him and tried to figure out what I wanted to say. “I’m sorry about today. I didn’t think about it from your perspective.”
I thought that’d probably been obvious, but he shook his head as he moved his hand to start petting me again. “No, you did too much thinking about my perspective and got stuck on one angle.”
Hmm…
He might’ve had a point.
“Yeah, I was just a bit focused on the work thing and if you’d take me seriously after having met me at the club. I didn’t think enough about the rest of it.” The practical part of it.
God, he hadn’t even known I was out to my guys.
Yep, that’d been more stressful for him than I’d imagined.
“I’m glad your employees are understanding about your life.” Running his fingers slowly over my head, he sent tingles throughme that had me inching closer. “Manny seemed nice, well, from what I saw of him.”
That made me chuckle. “He was worried he’d laugh if he actually talked to you. I might’ve mentioned where we’d met.”
Ben’s eyes danced with barely suppressed laughter. “That explains a lot.”
Yep, and gave me more to apologize about. “He liked you. He wouldn’t have made that comment about you staring at my ass otherwise.”
God, this just kept getting worse and worse.
