That made me smile. “That was about assubtle as Asa was.”
Warner laughed. “I’m taking lessons fromhim.”
“They’re working.” Closing my eyes, I triedto ignore my slightly tender ass as I cuddled closer. “Is he mad at me?”
“Yes.” Warner seemed to find my dramatichuff funny. “But I think he’ll get over it once you talk to him and tell himwe’ve started discussing everything.”
“Started as in we’re going to have a lotmore discussions?” I knew the answer before I even asked the question, but thekiss he pressed to my head made me smile. “That’s a yes, isn’t it?”
“Such a smart and sexy boy.” His handsinched under the blanket and caressed over my chest. “A well-developed brainand a wonderful cock-sucking mouth too. The perfect sub.”
Perfect?
No.
Embarrassed?
Yes.
My groan probably gave that away, though, because he chuckled. “We are going to have a talk before you leave in themorning, and during that discussion, we’re going to find times we can meet tohave other conversations. I don’t care if we’re meeting at McDonald’s or if I’mcoming over after your new teenager is in bed, but we’ll make time.”
The unsaidgot itmade me nod. “Yes,Sir.”
Then I grinned. “She’s three and lovesMcDonald’s.”
“So I’ll tell her it was my idea and be herfavorite friend then.” Warner chuckled. “I bet that’s a fun age.”
“So you really don’t mind?” He’d kind ofspanked that answer into me, but I had to ask anyway. “I mean, I know it’s notexactly what you signed up for when I brought dinner over that first time.”
That got me another hug and kiss on myhead. “No, I don’t mind.”
Settling me in his arms, he shifted mearound so more of my body was on the couch. When my head was on his lap and hewas stroking my hair, he continued. “I’m not going to lie and promise thateverything is going to magically work out. That would be completelyunrealistic.”
He leaned over and kissed my cheek, makingme smile. “But we’re going to talk and go at a pace you’re comfortable with, and we’re going to make sure you can handle everything without beingoverwhelmed.”
My snort had him chuckling again as hecontinued to talk through everything he’d been thinking. “I might not know alot about kids, but one thing I do remember from being little is that the timeswhen my parents were relaxed and happy were the best of my childhood.”
He might have had a point there.
“So while I respect your position asparent, you are too important to me to watch this stress continue to build.” Hepaused long enough that I knew he wanted me to respond, so I finally opened myeyes.
“What does that mean?” My question made himsmile for some reason.
“That means we’re going to look ateverything that’s making you stressed about being her guardian and we’re goingto see what we can do.” Tracing his finger over my face, he smiled as hestudied me.
“I’m realistic enough to grasp that wecan’t fix everything.” I might have rolled my eyes there, because I wasn’t surehe really grasped that at all, but I was smart enough not to blurt it outcompletely.
Warner gave me a look that said I needed tobehave, though he kept talking without getting distracted. “But if you needsomeone to come in to help out around the house or a babysitter, those arethings we can tackle together. If that means—”
I knew what he was going to say next, so Iinterrupted. “They both had life insurance and now Lynn has a household accountset up with plenty of money in it. I just feel…I should be able to manageeverything on my own. It’s just feeding and clothing an extra person. It’s notrocket science.”
It was Warner’s turn to snort and roll hiseyes. It was so unexpected and just looked so wrong on him it made me laugh. AsI grinned, he shook his head. “So smart but still missing the point.”
“What?” Feeling lighter, I rolled to myside and nuzzled my cheek against his dick.
A low groan escaped, but he was doing hisbest to ignore it as he answered me. “Even if Becca’s mother was a stay-at-homemom, she would’ve had help from your brother and probably you and even otherfriends. Running a house alone without adding a kid can be difficult. When youtoss in a small hurricane with emotions, then that adds even more. This is nota contest to see what you can do on your own.”
“Becca’s mom had just gone back to work. She was working part time while they were trying to decide if they were goingto have more kids then or later.” Warner raised one eyebrow and waited. “Andshe didn’t even try to do it all. They had a cleaning service that came in on aregular basis and stuff like that. My brother always said he wanted them to beable to play with Becca and show her the world, not just show her that herparents were overworked.”
