As his gaze came back to mine, he shrugged.“I thought things would be easier once I got here, but Conner made me feel likeI was the weird one when he was nearly naked and couldn’t understand why Iwasn’t concerned with a Dom’s looks.”

Asa scoffed. “Integrity is much sexier thanmuscles.”

Especially with a childhood like he’dexperienced.

I wasn’t going to verbally speculate thatAsa’s answers might have hit too close to home and reminded Conner of his ownpast, so I focused on the aspects of what he’d said. “You couldn’t have justmet assholes.”

He shrugged again, but didn’t make me dig.“When I was a senior in college, I started dating this guy. He seemed nice andlike a genuinely good guy. He didn’t push to have sex right away, and he saidhe was willing to look at BDSM.”

The careful way he explained it made itobvious something had gone very wrong, so I was prepared as he kept going withthe story. “But just as I was starting to feel comfortable taking things to thenext level, he tells me that after graduation he’s moving to California.”

Asa’s frustration finally started to show.“Evidently since we hadn’t fucked, we weren’t really serious, and he’d decidedto cut his losses.”

Fuck. That guy was a royal dick. “I’msorry.”

Before I could say anything else, he spokeagain. “It’s not important anymore. I’m just glad I didn’t give him myvirginity. That should go to my Master and not an asshole.”

Well, that answered one question.

“You are not a quitter. You need to relaxand get to know people here. There are plenty of nice Doms who would gladlytake their time with the right partner.” Not many I would trust with someonespecial like Asa, but at least a few.

Asa actually snorted, an odd sound comingfrom the well-mannered sub.

“I’m not going to hold my breath. No oneseems to want to be patient.” I gave his shoulder a squeeze.

“With the right communication and the rightperson, I would. I can’t be the only Dom who would see it that way as long asthey understood where you’re coming from.” But getting him to open up to a Domto share his childhood would probably take just as much trust.

Rock, meet hard place.

“Kiddo, did you tell that guy why you hadtrust issues?” Asa made another rude noise that had me trying not to laugh.

“Of course not. I don’t tell that part ofmy life to just anyone. And I’m too old to call kiddo.”

It was my turn to snort. “You can be athousand and still be my kiddo. Just because you’re now sexy doesn’t changeanything.”

I realized as he grinned that my words hadn’tcome out right.

Peeking at me, he smirked. “You think I’msexy, Mr. Stuart.”

Groaning, I shook my head. “Oh, no. NoMr.Stuartwith that tone of voice.”

Asa was having none of it.

Sitting up, his expression turned wickedand flirty. It was a new experience to see it on his face, but he was stillvery Asa.

“But Mr. Stuart, I’m all grown up now.”

Was there a response that wouldn’t make mea dirty old man?

“Trust me, I noticed when you first cameover.” His smile jumped to delighted and almost innocent.

“Really? You noticed me like a real sub?”

That had me rolling my eyes. “You are areal sub. But yes, I noticed you as a man.”

This conversation kept getting stranger andstranger.

Asa bounced on the couch and beamed. “Mylife is complete. I can now die happy.”
