“How could I have done anything less?” Hishand stroked down my back. “I knew you would be worth it from the first time Imet you. I just never understood how it would all work out. But I’m so sorryabout Matthew, baby. I would have never wished anything to happen to him evenif it’d meant that there would never be anything between us.”

“I know.” I sat up, kissing his lips almostinnocently. “You were always too honorable for me to think anything like that.Things just move in mysterious ways and we can’t always predict the future. Ithink that’s why the guys were so insistent that I not hide from this. Peoplecome into our lives and sometimes they’re taken away, we just have to make sureto love them while we can.”

Griffin gave me a tender kiss. “Matthew wasa very lucky man.”

There were too many confusing emotions and thoughtsrunning through me to know what the perfect answer should be, but all I coulddo was shake my head. “No, I think I’m the one who’s been lucky.”

Not many omegas were given a second chanceat love, and I knew I wouldn’t squander it.

Chapter 10

Griffin

“That means they just kissed.” Ari sighedand flopped onto a stool in the kitchen. “That’s sad. Does he not like you?”

I snorted, doing my best to ignore thequestion, but Seth didn’t seem to appreciate my response and made a sad face.“Oh, I’m sorry. He looked like he really liked you.”

They were going to drive me up the wall.

“He does like me. I told you we had a niceevening.” Obviously, I should have used a different word. “We talked andcleared up a few things, but if you must know, I didn’t push for more because Iwanted to give him a chance to process everything before we took things anyfurther. He loved his husband and he hasn’t dated seriously since his death.”

“Aww.” Seth sighed, looking like I was areal-life made-for-TV movie character. “That’s just so tragic and sweet, and tothink that he’s getting two fated mates in a lifetime. That’s so—”

I threw my hands up. “Whoa, we’re notthrowing words like that around. He’s special, yes. But that doesn’t mean…Imean, I’m not. I couldn’t replace Matthew and I won’t even try.”

Ari and Seth looked at each other and theirexpressions said they thought I was an idiot, but they were the ones who werethrowing around ridiculous words.

“Work. We’re going to get shit done quicklyso we can have the rest of the day off.” It was a slow weekend, but as busy aswe’d been lately, I didn’t mind. The only things we had to get ready were for aparty later that evening, but the host omega was doing his best to pretend hewas the fabulous cook, so all we had to do was get it ready and then drop itoff.

If he wanted to claim credit, that was finewith me because what he didn’t know was that two of the other guys he washaving a mostly friendly competition with were doing the same thing.

Ari grinned. “Do you have a date later?”

Seth immediately perked up. “Already? Maybehe does like you.”

Already? We hadn’t seen each other thatmany times this week.

“I’ve been invited to have dinner with hisfriends. They all get together a lot and they’re doing a casual barbecue later,so it’s not really a date.” The dinner wasn’t a date, but I had high hopes forthe rest of the evening.

They both broke out into wicked grins.“You’re going to Jonah’s house, aren’t you?”

I knew that look and it didn’t bode wellfor me. “Yes.”

Seth giggled. “We met his Doms and they’rechatty.”

Oh dear.

“They seemed very friendly. Although Ididn’t spend much time with them.” My focus had been on Wade and the food, inthat order.

“Russ is really chatty when he’s uncomfortable.”Ari beamed. “Seeing his friends naked is weird for him, but he’s trying. Heliked Wade’s flogging, though. He thought that was sweet for some reason. He’skind of weird. He also complained about their pool parties because evidentlythey have a tendency to get naked and naughty. But he doesn’t want to stop thefun because he realizes they’re just a weird kind of family that gets naked.”

“Austin calls their family incestuous.”Seth waggled his eyebrows. “I think it’s a good sign for them accepting me andAri.”

This was getting out of hand.

“Work. I don’t want to hear any more wildrumors.” And that was going to be my stance until Wade confessed it wasn’t arumor…which was probably a few hours from now when he was coming to pick me up.

They giggled and Ari wiggled excitedly. “Weexpect good stories on Monday.”
