Silas turned and gave the man a long stare.“Straggler. I looked through the files Austin put together for everyone. That’sthe guy who might be a good fit for the playroom upstairs.”
Ah, the temporary Daddy. “He looks—”
Silas interrupted. “Like he’s getting readyto leave.”
If I had to guess, I was going to saycrowds were the issue. I looked over at Silas. “I think I might be the betterperson to handle this.”
He rolled his eyes. “Yes, because I’m theright person to coax in the nervous Daddy.”
Yep, I was definitely the best optionconsidering everyone else was busy or trying not to stalk their omega.
Heading over to the door, I kept myexpression pleasantly neutral and did my best to look relaxed. As I approachedhim, I held out my hand. “Hi, I’m Tristan.”
The giant of an alpha made even me feelshort. I was impressed, but his size didn’t translate into aggression if I wasreading him correctly. He stared at me for a few seconds before extending his handand shaking my own. “Jarrett.”
“Glad you could make it.” I gestured aroundthe room. “The true bosses are busy for the moment, but I’d be glad to show youaround if you want.”
Anything to keep him from leaving becausesomething about the guy said that littles like Rowan would love him.
Probably all that lap to cuddle up in.
He nodded, still seeming to processeverything. “A friend said you were looking for someone to manage the playroom? For the littles and pups, I mean.”
“Yes.” Since I seemed to be the only onefree, I led him into the large open room that would be getting furniture injust days. “I know it doesn’t seem like it, but the club is almost done. Thiswill be a lounge area, mostly for hanging out and having private conversations.Through the far door is the display area for scenes and educational events.”
He was watching quietly, so I kept going.“And upstairs will be the playroom and smaller private rooms for specializedscenes.”
All I got was a nod, so I took a differentpath to get him to talk. “What do you think about littles and pups? Oh, and howare you with excitable omegas?”
Jarrett’s expression was hard to read, buthe seemed to be confused about the question. Pointing to Austin who was acrossthe room interrogating a guy who looked bored, I smiled. “Austin is terriblyexcited about the littles and decorating the room has turned into his passion. But he’s…enthusiastic.”
I got a blink that time, so I was countingit as a win.
“I’m just thinking you’ll need somepatience for him even though his alpha will usually be around to wrangle him.”I gestured to Silas who was wandering around the room just watching. “They’reboth fairly insane but well meaning.”
No point in easing him into it all; weneeded to see if he was too quiet to survive the waves his bosses tended tomake.
“So, he’s going to be running that part ofthe club?” Jarrett’s question had me relaxing a bit. “And how do you fit in allthis?”
Even better.
“In the strictest sense, I work forDakota.” I looked around and found him nodding absently as an omega talked amile a minute. “He’s the distracted one who’s stopped paying attention.”
Jarrett quietly chuckled that time.
“He’s a writer, so focusing on real peopleis not always his strong suit.”
It was my turn to smile as Jarrett spoke.“That’s Jim. We’re friends online and he’s very excited about the idea of theclub.”
I was pretty sure that was the most I’dheard him say at one time.
“Dakota gets overwhelmed with thatmuch…enthusiasm at once.” We were going to have to work on baby steps to gethim ready to interact with the more excitable people at the club. “I’ll rescuethem in just a minute if he doesn’t tune back in.”
That earned me another chuckle fromJarrett. “You just work together?”
“No.” I couldn’t help smiling. “He’s myomega and my sub.”
Jarrett nodded, looking a bit more relaxedas we headed toward the stairs. I continued, “Now don’t quote me on this, butfrom what I understand, they’re looking for someone to manage the playroomregularly that won’t mind helping the unattended littles and pups feel likethey fit in too.”
