I was clearly the strangest employee he’dever had, but he wasn’t complaining, just blushing and getting more aroused.
There was no way he was wearing anythingunder those sweats.
“I…I should…” He swallowed and noddedslowly. “I’ll be right back.”
I raised one eyebrow again and gave him astern glare.
He made a low noise that sounded almostlike a moan. “I’ll be right back, Sir.”
“Thank you.” I sipped my coffee. “Respectis very important in any relationship, working or otherwise, and I plan ontaking my role very seriously.”
He was at a loss about how to respond tothat, so he just nodded and mumbled something about being right back as hequickly headed out of the room. “Any more than ten minutes and I’m going toknow you disobeyed.”
His groan that time was louder and echoedthrough the house.
Chuckling, I pulled out my computer and atablet I used to make notes. Dakota’s desk was a mess, but there was a smallerone along the wall that was cleaner and had to belong to Jonah. Assuming hewouldn’t mind sharing for the time being, I headed over to his desk and startedworking.
My mental alarm clock went off just as Ifinished up making the last of my notes. Saving everything, I listened andheard footsteps moving through the house. As I stood, Dakota walked into theroom, looking sheepish and a bit frustrated.
Good. That meant he hadn’t come.
“I apologize for not being ready when youarrived.” It was obvious he was trying to start off on a professional foot, soI followed his lead for the moment.
“That’s understandable. You were honestabout needing help for a variety of things and this just shows that you werenot exaggerating.” I smiled when he snorted and shrugged. “We need to lay outthe duties you’ve been thinking about, but we’ll leave some flexibility inthere so we can adjust things and add as necessary.”
Dakota was back to staring at me. I knewhis brain was whirling to organize everything. If I had to guess, he wasprobably deciding what parts of our conversations were real and what he’dfantasized about. Letting him take a few breaths and sit behind his desk togive him some space, I waited.
“This seems weird.” His first comment mademe laugh.
I’d expected him to avoid it completely, soI had to rearrange my thoughts.
Was it logic or pure impulse on his part?
“Probably.” I shrugged as I moved back overto the couch.
As I sat down, I stretched out and did mybest to look relaxed. “I wouldn’t push for a situation like this with justanyone, though. This isn’t about my wanting to control a random omega oranything like that. There’s just something about you.”
The first time I’d seen his picture I knewthere was something special about him. Sure, he was hot in a boyish way thatscreamed dirty sub, but it was more than that. The feeling came rushing backeven stronger when I’d seen him at the party.
He chuckled. “So no random propositions tojust any omega author?”
I grinned. “Nope, only the sexy, dirtyones.”
Dakota let out an embarrassed groan andleaned back in his chair. He looked curious and resigned, but I wasn’t surewhat the combination meant.
“You’re the best, most logical choice forthe position. No one else around here even came close to your level ofexperience. The closest option was a guy about an hour from here who was askingto do the job remotely.” Dakota sighed and looked around the room. “Thatwouldn’t work.”
Nodding, I fought off a smile. “Probablynot.”
I knew there was abutcoming, so Iwaited.
Yep, I was right.
“But I’m not sure about everything else. There are too many opinions running around in my head.” He was serious, but I hadto smile.
My reaction had him pausing and thenrushing to say, “I’m not nuts, honest. I—”
Laughing wasn’t the best response, but hewas so cute. He huffed and slouched back which made him look even younger.“Dakota, stop apologizing. I grew up with writers. Nothing you say willsurprise me. Work. Kink. Your friends. There isn’t anything you say that willshock me. Now, there are things you can say that will disappoint me.”
