Then he shifted from one leg to the other, drawing attention to things I wasn’t supposed to notice at work—the tightening of his slacks, the tension in his body…the thickening cock that was barely hidden by the tight suit pants.
I found myself licking my lips and was barely able to pull my eyes back up to his devilish grin. “I…yes…um…”
Shit.
“I should let you get back to work.” That wasn’t what his expression said he wanted, though. “But I think meeting for dinner to go over the…club might be helpful.”
He paused for a few seconds, letting the silence speak for itself.
He really did know.
When he spoke again, the sexy smile came out again. “It would give me a better idea of how to help you.”
He was going to give me a fucking heart attack.
“That sounds…” Fucking incredible. “That sounds like a good idea. Um, I’ll make reservations—”
Shane shook his head and broke in. “No, let me. I’ll take care of the details so you don’t have to make the decision.”
Because it was his way of taking control?
Because it was polite?
Because he considered it part of his job?
“Thank you.”
It felt like the world was unsteady under me as he nodded and walked out the door, still smiling and looking very pleased with himself. He knew. There was no denying that. He also seemed fine with it. Hell, more than fine. He was turned on.
Unflappable, professional Shane was erect in my office.
Dinner, talking, and arousal meant date usually…but was he thinking the same thing? Yes, there were things we clearly needed to discuss, but they wouldn’t just be about business—they would be incredibly personal.

Shane
Didhe know it was a date?
Was it a date?
The things running through my head as the rest of the office started to clear out certainly weren’t work appropriate. Hell, if it stayed work appropriate, I’d be disappointed. Maybe that wasn’t the right thing to hope for, since he was my boss…but I didn’t want him to stay just my boss.
I just wasn’t sure what something more would look like.
He’d dated, but was he looking for something serious? I couldn’t see myself in a relationship like what he seemed to want unless it was serious. I’d never been able to do casual, and picturing casual while dominating him had a sense of frustration growing in me.
I shouldn’t feel possessive of him. He was my boss, not my boyfriend, but there was something about the scenarios I’d read about online that said commitment and trust to me. Seeing if we were on the same page with that was high on my to-do list for our dinner.
The list was growing by the second because there was so much I needed to understand. I just had to remember that everything was new and it didn’t need to be rushed. We’d actually started talking, and that was the most important thing.
The fact that we’d talked in circles and had barely touched on the things that needed to be said wasn’t the point.
As the employees on our floor started to drift home, I looked out the window and saw the flood of people leaving the building. Tanner had a way of making people work hard and push themselves, but he had a firm policy of people leaving the office at a reasonable time. Of course, he didn’t live by his own rules, but he wanted his employees to have quality time with their family, so by six the building was almost completely empty.
Most of the time I didn’t even notice, but as our dinner grew closer, I could feel the emptiness weighing on me. There would be no one to hear what we talked about, no one to judge and no one to question us.
Finishing up the final tasks that needed to be done for the day, I straightened up my desk and rose. Waiting any longer would just make things worse. I knew Tanner would be nervous and to a degree I could admit it was sexy, but I didn’t want him too worried.
