My heart soared for her as I grinned maniacally.

“Why wouldn’t I want you?” Mara asked as his fingers brushed against hers softly.

“I’m different from you, that’s all. I’m not what you think. We should just be friends.”

My eyes widened so much they practically fell out of my head.

I knew my brother had some shady friends, but I didn’t think he was part of that.

So what did he mean?!

I swallowed when Mara walked up to him, his arm instinctively going around her waist as she did.

“Cool. Let’s be friends, Ryan.”

I wasn’t sure if they were going to kiss, so I turned and strolled back into the party, my head was reeling as I considered his words.

Mara marched over to Edward as my eyes flew back to that of my brothers.

He was watching her with a stony stare, his fists clenched by his sides. His eyes darkened, and he strode into the party. I froze, watching him go over to his friend, muttering something in his ear.

Mara slid her arms around Edward’s neck as he dipped his head toward hers. Ryan looked on as their lips met before he left the party, the door slamming behind him.

Mara and I sat facing each other in my room, cross-legged.

“Mar, talk to me,” I pleaded.

She shook her head, staring at the floor, her eyes shining with tears.

“It’s been three weeks since the party.Three weeks. You need to talk to Ryan.”

“You don’t understand.”

Mara closed her eyes, exhaling. “I slept with Edward that night.”

I froze, my heart thundering in my chest as I blinked.

So that’s why she’s avoiding Ryan.

“What?!”

I frowned, remembering that my cab dropped her off at home before mine.

“After you dropped me off, he texted me...” her words trailed off as she bit her lip. “So I went to see him.”

Her voice grew quiet as I waited, unsure what to think or say. She pushed her hair out of her face as she groaned, closing her eyes.

“And you fucked him?Jesus Mar. What a way to pop your cherry.”

“Hannah!”

I cringed. “Sorry.”

“Then I left early the following morning. Before he woke up. Then I saw Ryan,” she confided, and my mouth fell open.
