“It doesn’t matter now, Theodore. You won,” Jax said, his eyes swirling with bitterness.

“Why tell her I kept you apart then?” I demanded.

Jax looked at me, and I knew I wouldn’t like his answer.

“Because of the way she is when she’s with me. It makes me wonder, sometimes, whether the right man won.”

Boom.

My fist smashed into his face as he fell to the floor, holding his face.

“She’s not your fucking possession, De Luca!” Jax spat out.

“No, but she’smyfucking girlfriend. By her choice. She knows you’re interested, and you know what? She still wantsme.”

“I never said I’m still interested.” Jax snapped, standing up.

We glared at each other with a mixture of anger and disgust.

“Iknowyou are,” I said, shaking my head at him. “Some fucking friend you are.”

Jax sighed, sinking onto the stairs on the stoop, his shoulders sagging.

“I know you’re pissed. I just had to know if she felt anything.”

“And now?” I demanded, staring down at him.

Jax lifted his eyes to me as he spoke.

“I’ve never felt that way with anyone. The way I did when I kissed her all those years ago. She felt it too. But it’syoushe wants now, for whatever reason. It’s you she’s probably always wanted,” he muttered.

“I was herbest friend,Jax. I was there through everything. Do you know how many times she cried over that prick, Kyle, after what he did to her? Do you haveanyidea how much I have struggled with being her best friend? Waiting for her to see that she and I were perfect together? No. So don’t get pissed and start making your fucking declarations of love to her because I will knock you thefuckout.”

I exhaled, striding away as he called out behind me.

“Theo, man, I’msorry.”

“Fuck you,” I spat as I got back in my car, trembling.

My best friend tried it on with her.

What the fuck was the world coming to?

I drove home, trembling with rage. I parked, noticing Hannah sitting on the wall outside of her house, wearing a tiny white dress, hair loose, blowing in the wind.

Fuck me.

“De Luca. Come here, please,” Hannah called as I turned to glare at her. My eyes betrayed me, slipping down her thighs as I sauntered over.

“What?” I asked coldly, folding my arms as she unhooked them, wrapping them around her.

“I did like him, but not likethis. I loveyou,” Hannah murmured, her sweet mouth quivering when she looked up at me. Her eyes were wide and shining with tears.

I groaned inwardly, knowing she had me.

“Prove it.” I smirked against her mouth.

This girl had me under a spell, unable to breathe without her.
