“What? What happened?” he demanded as I closed my eyes.
I slid off him, drawing my knees up to my chest as I looked at him, his emerald eyes locking onto mine.
“I want to ask you something. But if you flip out, I’m not talking to you.” I hesitated.
“I’m worried,” Theo mumbled.
I grabbed his hand. “It’s not like that. Just hear me out.”
He nodded, his mouth set in a thin line as I took a deep breath.
“So, Jax mentioned something about apologizing face to face...”
Theo frowned, clearly trying to work out where this was going.
“He apologized for the Kyle incident—”
“Good,” Theo muttered.
“—Then he said he was sorry for not telling me how much he liked the time in the closet all those years ago.” I exhaled, my heart in my throat.
Theo bolted up, staring at me as though I’d just told him I’d murdered his pet dog.
“What?”
“Theo!” I pleaded.
He remained calm, but the fire in his eyes told me he felt anythingbut.
“He said you warned him off. Did you? Did you know he liked me? Becauseyouknew I likedhim,” I whispered as he closed his eyes.
We hadn’t discussed this since a drunken conversation at Theo’s birthday party where he had told me I categorically couldn’t go near Jax. He said Jax would fuck me around and that Jax didn’t like me in that way, anyway. He just wanted to say he’d slept with me, and Theo didn’t want that to happen.
“I love you, Hannah, I always have,” Theo muttered as he stared at the floor. “When you told me you liked Jax, my heart broke.Literally.”
I sighed, pushing my hand through my mop of crazy hair.
Poor Theodore.
“So Jax toldmygirlfriend he likes her?Drunk, at aclub?” he said bitterly as dread swept over me.
“Hang on though, you’ve not been entirely truthful either,” I pointed out as he widened his eyes at me.
“Well, I’m sorry I kept youapart. Do what you fucking want, then Hannah. Shall I drop you round to his, so you can give it a go?”
Fury filled his eyes as he stood up, staring down at me.
I scrambled to get off the bed.
“No! I just wanted to know why you did that,” I explained as he stared at me coldly.
“Because you’remine.”
My core tingled at his words as he strode over to me, claiming my mouth with his. His tongue pushed into mine with an urgency I’d not felt before from him, even at the beginning.
“Hang on,” I mumbled, gasping for air.
“No,” Theo growled, tugging my hair back as he slammed his mouth on mine.
