"I would stand by him. Ilovehim, Jax. What I won't tolerate is him lying to me. He's not ill, is he?"

Jax flushed, his hair falling in his eyes as I peered at him.

"No, he's not ill. You need to speak to him about it," he said gruffly, refusing to make eye contact with me.

"He isn't fuckingtellingme, Jax. Help me," I begged.

"No. You need to ask Theo yourself," Jax muttered.

I nodded numbly.

It must be bad.

I whirled away, tears clouding my vision as I made my way back towards Amethyst house, determined to call Theo immediately.

Why was he lying to me?

Was it to do with Lissa and the baby?

Or was it something else?

Or someone else?

I felt sick to my stomach.

I pulled open the door to the empty hallway, racing towards my room. I cursed myself for leaving my phone on charge and for even leaving. Theo had been so convincing about being ill; even his parents had backed him up.

What was going on?

I dropped the key to the door as I cursed, leaning down to get it.

"That was always my favorite position," I heard a voice say from the end of the hall.

Nofuckingway.

"Kyle." I spat out his name. "It's not like you to be so crude.”

I went to put my key in the door as Kyle strode over. His scent hit me like a slap in the face, and so did the memories that came with it.

"Can I come in?" Kyle asked, his eyes meeting mine.

My chest tightened as I backed away.

"No, you can't."

"But I want to talk to you. I've not seen you since—"

FLASHBACK

"I thought you loved me!" I sobbed, tears streaming down my face. "You're supposed to bemyboyfriend!"

"Jesus, Hannah, have youseenher? You can't blame me," Kyle snapped, glaring at me with his gorgeous blue eyes. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I'm sorry, babe, but I just… couldn't say no."

"You should've said no!" I choked out as my heart broke into a thousand pieces. "You weremine."

"I'm still here, aren't I?"

"What's that supposed to mean?!" I shrieked with disbelief. "That I should begrateful?"
