“Lucas. You need to rest.”

“Alice. My love. Myangel. I have a business to attend to. Either you send him in, or I’ll go get him,” he sighed as I pursed my lips.

“Fine. But then, you sleep.”

“If you sleep beside me.”

Our eyes met then, and I shook my head in disbelief.

“Why is everything a battle with you?”

“Because you don’t do as you’re told.”

Lucas’s eyes closed slightly, and I rose to my feet, deciding to let him have the last word just this once.

“I’ll get Richie.”

“I fucking love you.”

I smiled as I turned away, biting my lip with happiness.

“You’re alright too, old man.”

“Bitch.” Lucas chuckled as I flipped him the bird.

“Richie! He wants you, not me. Maybe you’re right. Maybe he is gay after all...” I sang, walking down the stairs to see the men looking at me in horror.

I heard him muttering from the bedroom as Richie went to walk by me.

“Richie,” I said, holding his arm, “He has to stay in that bed. So tell him whatever he wants to hear, and tell me anything he needs to know.”

He nodded, a soft smile on his face.

“I’m sure between us we can run this joint for ten days,” I murmured, gazing at the men before me.

“Do we have any food in? I’m going to cook,” I declared as I opened the fridges.

“Champagne and beer. Can someone run me to the grocery store? I need actual food.”

Phil jumped up, grabbing the car keys from the side.

“I’ll take you, Miss Fallon.”

I’d become quite fond of Phil over the past year, and despite him looking like a bruiser, he was a big softie. He couldn’t stand the sight of blood for a start, which made me wonder how he coped in this line of work. I followed him out, checking how many were staying for food. They stared at me blankly before raising their hands.

“Eight. Ok, make sure there are no women here when I get back. It’snota whore house.”

“Well, it kind of is...” Phil pointed out as I sent him a look that made him raise his hands in mock surrender.

“You’re scary, lady, you know that?”

“I know that. So talk to me about Yasmin.”

He rolled his eyes as we climbed into the car, his handsome face concentrating as he reversed down the street.

“Yas is Yas. She loves her job, the money...”

As we spoke about his girlfriend, I glanced down at my phone.
