“I love you, Zane.”

“I know, baby. I love you more.”

LUCAS

“If I have to repeat myselfonemore time—”

“He’s insistent, Boss. He will wait all day if he has to,” Richie mumbled, glancing back downstairs.

“For fucks sake,” I said coldly, waving my hand dismissively. I heard the sound of the car pulling up outside, and I stood immediately.

Alice was here.

“Richie,” I barked, tugging my tie loose as I walked towards the stairs. “Take Alice to my room, get her a glass of whatever she wants. Tell her I won’t be long.”

I sighed, walking downstairs and into my office, raising my eyebrows at the man seated in front of me.

“Lucas Deacon.”

I sat down in front of him, scrutinizing him. He was bald and ripped to fuck. He wore a suit that showed his wealth while he stared at me with cold, dead eyes.

This man was a killer, of that I had no doubt.

“You know my name, yet I do not know yours,” I said quietly, rubbing my chin.

“Lucas Deacon, of Deacon Enterprises. Thirty-seven years old, also the owner of a business that only the underworld knows of. My name is Harry. You’re right: you don’t know me. But maybe you can remember my son, Steve.”

I nodded before making eye contact with him.

“I’m not going to fuck about, Harry. Are we talking about Steve, who raped an eighteen-year-old girl in her childhood bed last year? The same Steve who held a gun to my girl’s head? Who ordered a man to overdose on his dollar?”

Harry’s eyes gave nothing away, and he smiled suddenly.

“That’s my boy.” He chuckled, and I narrowed my eyes at him. “See, where I’m from, there’s a little saying. An eye for an eye?”

I studied him, every fiber of my being wanting to rip his jugular out of his fat throat, to watch him bleed to death in front of me.

“Maybe you should get to the point. I’m a busy man.” I snapped, noticing his eyes darken.

“Yeah, you’ve got a fine little thing to fuck, haven’t you? Waiting for you just up those stairs. See, my son meant the world to me. Myonlyson.Youtook him away from me.”

“I protected what’s mine, and I’d do it again.”

Our eyes met then as he nodded.

“You kill someone I love; I kill someone you love. That’s how the world works, Lucas.”

“Good luck, Harry. Now get the fuck out of my house while you’re still breathing.”

He didn’t move at first, staring at me in an attempt to intimidate me.

What he didn’t know was I felt no fear.

“I thought I would attempt to let you choose who I killed. But now I know there is only one option.”

I twisted my neck as I sighed, the rage now building within me at a record speed.
