"I want to see him, Mom. Even if he's married."

My heart shook at the thought, but I refused to entertain the idea. Lucas would be the ideal person to be here right now for so many reasons. My heart broke for Layla and now for Zane. I knew something was going on between them, but I didn't know she was being forced into a marriage against her will.

God, I wish I had Lucas's number.

Suddenly a brain wave hit me.

The office!

"Mom, I need to call someone. Alone. Keep Dad...busy."

She laughed as she allowed her eyes to run over him slowly.

"You have about twenty minutes until he's driving us to the airport, darling."

I blinked in disbelief before shaking my head.

"I don't want to know. But thanks."

I pushed the door open, quickly dialing the office.

"Deacon Enterprises," chirped the receptionist brightly as I babbled.

"Mr. Deacon's office, please."

The wind whipped around me as I heard the jolly-on-hold music play down my ear.

Please be in; please be in...

"Good afternoon, Mr. Deacon's office."

"Hi, it's Alice Fallon. Is Mr. Deacon in today?"

"Hi, Alice. I'm afraid not. Can I take a message?"

My stomach dropped as I sighed.

"Do you have any idea when he will be back?" I asked hollowly.

"He's in Italy on business. I'm sorry I don't know his return date."

I thanked her and hung up as the door behind me opened.

"Yo, get your ass in gear," ordered my Dad as I nodded, waving him away.

Fucking Italy. The bastard had gone.

My phone rang again, and I answered it immediately.

"Tell me you are on the plane.” Zane snapped, as I let out a sigh.

"Almost." I lied as he hung up. Right now, I needed to be with my brother, and Lucas fucking Deacon would need to be the last thing on my mind.

Less than six hours later, we pulled onto the drive to see Zane pacing in the driveway. His eyes were wild when he saw me, tears in his eyes.

"She isn't answering the phone; I'm losing my fucking mind."

I'd never seen him so angry in my life, and I was a little taken aback.
